Despite the average being .297 through 4 games (was .333 thru 4 last year), I have no doubt that this lineup is better than that of a year ago. Pitching staff is also the deepest in a long time. Sunday is up for grabs, but the 1-2 punch is one of if not the best in the league and the bullpen is 6-8 deep with dependable guy. This is a talented group.

Saban called it the "catastrophe syndrome" referring to LSU football fans. I keep hoping baseball fans will be different....

Is it catastophe syndrome when you can make observations about a weak spot of a team that in the end turns out being the anchor that holds back a great finish to the year?

So it was the fan's catastrophe syndrome over recent poor offensive performances that led to LSU football losing the Florida game as well as the Chick-Fil-A bowl?

My opinion of LSU's ability to score runs has absolutely zero effect on the outcome of any of their ball games.

You are correct. I forgot him executing in the 3rd. The lack of execution on the safety squeeze in the 7th blanketed my memory.

Not ready to jump off of a cliff, just debating LSU's ability to support their great pitching staff from the last couple of seasons.

Not trying to argue, but I am going to point out that the last couple of seasons are irrelvant when talking about this team. This lineup has considerably more depth than the last couple of seasons have had. We have a legitimate leadoff hitter that can steal a base. We have a little bit of pop through the middle of the lineup which we have not had in prior seasons. I really think Rhymes need to hit in the 2 hole. He is not a 4 hole hitter. If he is moved to the 2 hole it would allow Jacoby Jones to slide into the 4 spot between Bregman and Katz, so Jones would still be protected being surrounded by those guys. Ross could move up into the 6 spot. This lineup is way more solid than the last couple of season.

I think Laird's production would be better in the 9 hole. You still get him as a table setter paired with Sciambra in every innung but the 1st. Then a high BA guy like Rhymes with a lot of RBI chances, but mostly on singles, leaves Bregman with a lot of RBI chances still.

1) Sciambra - RF
2) Rhymes - LF
3) Bregman - SS
4) Katz - 1B
5) Jones - 2B
6) Ross - C
7) Edward/Moore - DH
8) Ibarra - 3B
9) Laird - CF

Is how I would set the line up.

Exactly.

I also think McMullen has a chance to compete for playing time. I think if he can outperform Edward and Moore, you could possibly see Rhymes move to the DH role and slide Sciambra and Laird over and stick McMullen in RF. That would provide us with our best defensive outfield also.

In due time this will be it IMO. Pretty much exactly as I've had it all pre-season with the exception of Sciambra solidifying the leadoff spot, which I don't think anyone will argue that unless he starts slumping hard.

If Jones keeps up his power tear, I wouldn't mind flipping him and Katz in your lineup

I misread his lineup. Yeah I agree I would have Jones in the 4 hole. Katz is not a cleanup hitter. Having Jones there would also provide Jones protection.

He's the very definition of a cleanup hitter.

Just my opinion. Doesn't mean anything. I personally think that Jacoby Jones is much better suited for the cleanup spot than Katz is. Maybe to say he isn't a cleanup hitter is a little off, but I beileve Jones is a MUCH better fit in the 4 hole in this lineup than Katz is.

Pretty sure that I clearly stated already I feel he is good in the five hole.

A five hole hitter is a poor man's four hole hitter...

There's really not that much difference between the two.

Based on Jacoby's newly found approach at the plate (thanks Javi? ), I can't argue either way 4-5 or 5-4. But based on a career of data, Katz is better suited for the cleanup spot.
