| Do we really have freedom of choice? (Posted on 2/19/13 at 1:31 pm)
Yeah, we have some choices.... this gas station or that gas station... this burger or that burger. Do we really have freedom of choice, though? It seems to me that we have a bunch of meaningless choices to make while all the real freedoms are being handled by other people. Personally, I feel that the entire political system is a sham which is why I don't really care to vote. What are your opinions on this matter? I know there are big things happening right now but that's just my point.... can we really do anything about it as a normal (non-billionaire) citizen? Don't link me to some sketchy YouTube video with conspiracy theories. TIA.

What are the meaningful choices being denied to you? Yours seemes like a whinny, ill thought out complaint IMHO. You could have chosen to be more coherent, but unfortunately you didn't.

I'm not whining in the least bit. In fact, my lack of coherence is probably due to my Office Space-like sense of apathy. I guess I'll try to ask a more specified question next time to more adequately describe my thoughts.

We still have limited freedoms, but it is certain that freedoms are being curtailed at an ever increasing rate. The Homeland Security Act is one example of legislation that has reduced freedom. Obamacare will reach into many areas of our lives and dictate certain behaviours.

I don't follow what you mean... what choices do you want that you don't have?

You have a choice to move to another country, if they will take you. Is there a country, in which you have lived, that offered more freedom of choice?

In my opinion, I have a meaningful choice being denied to me every 4 years.

We have a limited freedom of choce. Unlimited freedom of choice isn't practical.

No, because you are free to vote for whatever candidate you want. You can choose to vote for whoever you want.

While true, it's entirely irrelevant. The candidates worth voting for will never be on a platform to be seriously considered. The "choice" between Romney and Obama is about as meaningful as the choice between McDonalds and Burger King.

I do like this video. It pretty well summed up what I was thinking. Maybe it's coherent enough for the box-thinkers to understand, too. The information age .

This is not really valid. There are only two candidates every four years that have any realistic chance of winning. Both are hand picked and both are very similar in the things they ultimately do. The differences are typically only cosmetic in nature. There is no real choice.
