While I'd prefer a "true" Libertarian, he's certainly a step in the right direction. I could come to support him.

Damage done. These news outlets should vet their sources before publishing. Of course when the publishers have an agenda, scrutiny of source material is a secondary effort. You can bet that if Obama had allegedly made such a statement, accuracy would have been paramount.

IMO, Rand is a libertarian at heart however realizes that he has to campaign to the slight neo-right on social issues and foreign policy to make his candidacy acceptable to the neocons. Practically all of the center and right will love him on his fiscal ideals and fiscal policy usually trumps all other issues.

I'm a fan of Rand Paul, mainly because of his father. However, I can't see Rand being elected with him being labeled a racist.

A lot of the 'racism' label comes from (misinterpreted) statements both Rand and his father have made relating to the Civl Rights Act. Here's a start: LINK Let me point out that I definitely don't consider him a racist, and I'm all aboard the Rand Paul 2016 train.

I read the article and he's not a racist. Not even close. That's the problem with freedom which Rand promotes. You have to take the bad with the good and you need virtuous people to choose good to prolong a free society.

I don't think he is racist. I think he was unclear on his view. Sounds to me like he supports private businesses enacting certain guidelines to meet criteria (as in, "we won't serve you if you're wearing your pants halfway down your ass"). Basically it is a private businesses right to serve who they want and have whatever clientele they so choose. If they want to keep out what they deem "undesirables", then so be it. If that hurts the business, then it is their own fault but it isn't the Gov'ts job to intervene on that. Integration and Civil rights was mostly intended in the public sector such as schools. But really, a private business can do whatever they want at their own peril.
