I have an interview tomorrow, and the company wants us to complete a profile on their website in preparation. The profile consists of just personal information and then submitting a resume or c.v. I am wondering if I should submit a document that contains both a cover letter and resume. I know it says resume, but I have been told before to always submit a cover letter with a resume unless explicitly stated not to.
ETA: There was no application process. I had met with some representatives at a career fair and later on they contacted me for an interview.

If the resume is unsolicited absolutely. After that I err on yes if you have a damn good one, but if it isn't top flight, don't submit it just to 'check the box'

depends if they ask for one or not. if they are interviewing a lot of candidates, they aren't going to bother with cover letters.
just ask if they would like a cover letter attached.

Nope. I've submitted them but usually don't bother. I never bothered reading the cover letters when I've reviewed resumes.

After I removed my objective portion from my resume, I felt it prudent to include an introduction of some sort. Written communication is a strength of mine, so my letter serves purpose.

A letter of intro., briefly, very briefly synopsing what will be repeated in the resume is professional. Just don't over do it.

Yes, definitely. A resume doesn't really tell them anything about you as a person, merely your accomplishments. A cover letter gives them your personality. If they like you just from reading your cover letter, then it will give you a big leg up on getting an interview than someone with similar qualifications who didn't do one.
And please make sure your cover letter is different for each company you send it to. It needs to seem personalized, as in you actually gave a shite.

Or, maybe, they will hire the guy that followed directions. It says upload resume/ cv... not upload resume/ cv, cover letter, references, copy of transcripts, third grade art picture, whatever else you think is going to help.
