He fired 2 rounds in the direction of the attacker after being shot in the leg. Everyone else was on the floor....idiot. I don't see a better way he could have handled it...people don't realize in that split second how hard it is to aim accurately in the heat of the moment when you're being shot at. There is no amount of training to prepare you for that if its never happened to you.

Well, even assuming that someone had shot back at the idiot in Connecticut and accidently hit 5 kids in the process, the TOTAL number dead would almost certainly have been lower. Put it this way. We KNOW that absent any return fire, the shooter will kill until he's out of ammor or the cops show up. So, if you're measuring "success" in mitigating the situation, THAT is where you start. You don't start by worrying about fricking perfection. Perfection is what yields frickind dumb assed ideas like "gun free zones". You idiot liberals are such goddamned single variable thinkers it's not even funny.

Yep...Some people watch too many movies where they shoot around corners..kinda like a draw or fade in golf....

Gun seemed inefficient for its purpose.

Uhm, the purpose of the weapon was to deter or stop criminal activity. In that regard, I would say it was very efficient (would probably choose effective but you get the gist of what I am saying).

Handgun on his self would've seemed a better choice. He got shot trying to obtain and wield the weapon.

In my opinion, in close quarters I would prefer a handgun or a carbine (which is what he was using). However, unless there is further video or eyewitness evidence, you are speculating on whether he was trying to "obtain and wield" his weapon. All of his initial response/reaction occurs off camera.

Just going by what I thought I observed from the video. Security guard seemed to have gotten shot with his back to the perps while trying to arm himself with the rifle elsewhere in the room. Also, the small and cornered layout of the office didn't seem to lend itself well to rifle defense.

Fair enough. However, my question would be, why would the perp even shoot if he did not see the weapon? And it must have been really close because he retreated almost immediately after coming to the inner door beyond the table. It definitely served its purpose (the crime was stopped in progress). It (potentially) could have served its purpose more effectively. As a technique, if I was using a carbine in close quarters like that I would keep it in the ready (as a minimum) by a centerline/3 point combat sling.

I agree. a slung carbine is consistently faster than a pistol and more likely to score a hit. I would prefer a holstered pistol, but if I am using a carbine it would be slung 100% of the time.

I stand corrected. After viewing it again it is clear the security guard has to cross the back room to get his carbine in order to react/respond. Very, very poor technique. Inexcusable. If there is that much risk in the business they are engaged in (and clearly there is), then it should be SOP that the front door is not opened until he is at the ready. Tactics/technique is the issue at hand. Not the choice of weapon.

Perps engaged in armed robberies often aren't real rational, competent or concerned with the safety of others.

Did the AR serve a tactical advantage in that situation, though? Let's be honest: In that environment, carrying an AR-15 full time seems impractical, which is why I don't see the video as so much a defining moment for pro-AR people as pro-private gun ownership people in general. In the guard's defense, he did exhibit some lightning reflexes.

After seeing it a second time, it is clear that the security guard very belatedly reacts when the woman at the front door screams. The perp sees him reaching for his weapon and shoots him. The security guard is lucky he is not dead (and all those he was hired to protect). Exceptionally poor technique/tactics.
