Don't ask me to cite it chapter and verse because I'm not your priest

One, you cant. Because its in he second book of Maccabees, which when I lloked aint in my Bible.

Second, if this in reference to Hebrews praying for their dead, show me where the Jews do this in their religious practices?

The only thing that Jews practice is Kaddish. To show that despite the loss they still praise God. Nothing about praying loved ones into heaven

1 Corinthians 3:11-15; 1 Corinthians 15:29; 2 Timothy 1:16-18. There is Biblical references to praying for the dead, and hence, Purgatory. Therefore, with our prayers, even Hitchens perhaps has a fighting chance.

2 Kings 14:25, The book of Jonah, Matthew 12:38-41, 16:4; Luke 11:29-32.

Jonah gets eaten by a whale.

I think Hitchens is resting peacefully.

He originally was a bit pro Obama. (Maybe not so pro Obama as much as anti McCain) but If he were alive today, what do you think his views on the presidents current agenda would be?

He would be very anti Obama today

Hitchens was a very complex thinker. I don't get how he can be so atheist, in the name of science, at one end and be so socialistic, in the name of emotion, at the other end.

Dudes probably found out there is a God by now.But overall I kind of liked him , he was a straight shooter no matter what he thought he laid it out there unlike most on the left who like to decieve others about their view points.

Obviously you are using the wrong one.

quote:

After the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 AD, the Jewish leaders came together and declared its official canon of scripture at the Council of Jamnia in 90 AD, eliminating seven books from the Septuagint. The books removed were Tobit, Judith, 1 Maccabees, 2 Maccabees (which tells the story of Hanukkah…so that means that you can only find the story of Hanukkah in the Catholic Bible), Wisdom (of Solomon), Sirach, and Baruch. Parts of existing books were also removed including Psalm 151 (from Psalms), parts of the Book of Esther, Susanna (from Daniel as chapter 13), and Bel and the Dragon (from Daniel as chapter 14).
The Christian Church did not change with the Jews. They kept all the books in the Septuagint. It is the same Old Testament used by Jesus and used by the Catholic Church today.

Whenever I'm in a bad mood, I watch Hitchens vs. Hannity on Falwell's death. Pure entertainment

By the way, Hitchens would probably be pissed on Obama's weak stance about Iran and North Korea, while endorsing continued drone use.

I miss Hitch.

re: Christopher Hitchens

I always was a Hitchens fan. I probably disagreed with him more often than I agreed, but I enjoyed his opinion. I can't recall a time I read/listened to an opinion of his that wasn't well thought out.

He was one of the last modern and mainstream "thinkers". His arguments were never a simple 'approve or oppose'. He took the time to educate himself on not only his stance, but the opposing views as well. It sucks more people aren't like that; we could make so much more progress that way.

ETA: to the point, I'm not sure how he would feel. He was tough on terror, but I don't see him supporting the drone issue simply from a civil liberties POV.

You might need to research why all those religions broke from the Catholic Church. They've been out of touch (like aiding pedophiles) for centuries
quote:

The Council of Jamnia or Council of Yavne is a hypothetical late 1st-century council at which the canon of the Hebrew Bible was alleged to have been finalized. First proposed by Heinrich Graetz in 1871, this theory was popular for much of the twentieth century. It was increasingly questioned from the 1960s onward, and is no longer considered plausible.

didnt happen.

You should stop praying for the dead. They had their opportunity

I wondered why you didn't provide a link until seeing that your information came straight from Wikipedia. Good grief, man, are you really that stupid?
