Leaving his brilliant comedy aside, He is the defacto Cultural Bully for the liberal status quo. He represents the "CORRECT" view, and he ridicules, mocks and marginilizes anybody who disagrees, regardless of the merit of their argument. He is as much a part of the culture wars as any person in the entertainment industry today. And I guess if you want to see America move FORWARD (!!!) you probably love him, and if you want a functional America to hand down to your kids you probably don't.

How does that discredit the claim that a majority of people who watch his show take it as real news? It doesn't... God, I used to have respect for you and think that you were an open thinker, but lately you jus tote the line of bull shite for the left

This is exactly on point, then when someone calls Stewart out he runs and hides behind the "I am only a comedian don't take me seriously" shield. edit sp

I enjoy some daily shows and not others...I'm not concerned with how other people take his shows, his personal political views or, even, what he considers his role (comedian or commentarian).

Because that joke of a poll doesn't establish that claim. People know they're watching a show for laughs for God's sake. Be honest. The argument in this thread is nothing more than the same old liberal vs. conservative crap on this board. It has precious little to do with Stewart's talent as a comedian. For the most part it's nothing more than "if you're liberal you like him" and "if you're conservative you don't". Tiresome.

I know people hate to hear it again, but he really is a fricking political satirist. It's his job.

VOR- I think I like his show. He's funny as hell and a brilliant satirist. But he is also a Cultural Bully. The underlying premise of ALL of his humor is that he is surrounded by dullards and dolts (98.7% of whom just happen to be Conservatives) who are preventing human progress. I'll watch a clip here or there, but it bores me, because I already know who he will "target" and how I am "supposed" to feel about said target to be a CORRECT AMERICAN. After a while it just gets boringly predictable. So I watch his show 4/5 times a year maybe.

Have you watched his interviews of politicians, business people, etc? Are you not capable of gaining any information from those interviews?
If you rely only on the Daily Show for information, you're not going to know very much. You'll know a little bit about whatever topic he targeted with his satire and a little bit about the person he interviewed. But overall, you'll have no idea what's happening in the world. His show is intended for people who are already informed when they tune in.

Hannity is NOT a satirist. Or maybe he is and the jokes on me. I agree with him, but he is unlistenable, imho. Limbaugh provides brilliant Conservative political commentary, of the quite nasty and personal variety, to be sure. I would not expect many liberals to listen, other than the masochistic ones. I am unapolegetically grateful to listen to Limbaugh however, even if I must do it on the most retrograde technology available, the am radio dial. Schultz and Maddow are also commentators, not satirists. Both in fact, may be SNL parodies gone awry, who knows... All four by the way stand OUTSIDE of CORRECT American culture. Jon Stewart, by contrast , is the NYT of Young Hipster Doofi (YHD's) everywhere. *coined a new acroynym !

I've never been a fan. Don't know why, but I don't find the guy funny. Stewart OTOH, I find funny.

See that's the part I object to. I could careless about his politics everyone knows he's liberal. But Jon Stewart has never been funny. I keep going back to it every time there is a Jon Stewart thread but I still remember his show on MTV in the 90s when I was teenager and how awful it was. I still wonder how he ever got that gig and more amazingly how it didn't sink his career for good as it should have. He must be getting gay with some high ranking tv exec is the only thing I can think of.
