Governor Jindal is doing a fine job. He has my support.

We have a big surplus thanks to him.

I kige this.

The two biggest issues are the amount of time he spends out of state and not even trying to accomplish comprehensive fiscal reform. That said, I'd take him as my governor right now and I don't have anything against Bryant.

He's a horrible governor because he's rarely in his own state. I'd like a governor who is not constantly running for president. Everything he does, he does with the end result in mind, the presidency. Further, his educational "reforms" are a joke. He's incredibly pro-charter, but he doesn't advocate holding charter schools to the same standards that he holds public schools to. Further, he doesn't believe in holding private schools that ACCEPT public funding to the same standards. He's simply shifting the money around. How about some reform that's actually changing something? Many public schools are awful but he needs to stop spewing the narrative that private and charter schools are the end all be all if we aren't using the same metric to judge them that we use to judge public schools.

Bump that, I want a guy who wants to move up.

no. He doesn't hold the students of the voucher program to the same standards as the private student. The voucher student still takes the same state testing as they would at public schools.

Jindal is going to destroy the private school system.

Don't get how you and some others here can poke fun at a self-made businessman like Boasso as some sort of evidence of Bobby Jindal's greatness. Both Boasso and Jindal are awkward guys in person and wear cowboy boots with their suits, but only one of them has created jobs, worked outside the public sector and doesn't look like a complete fraud in ropers.

...and Piyush kills me with his hatred of state/government employees when he's been one his entire adult life. Bobby claims he's making "tough choices," but he really has yet to make one. He pretty much picks on folks who can't fight back.

Yes, since anyone who has any criticism of Jindal obviously wanted Boasso or the North LA teacher as their Governor.

In that case, fiscal conservatives who criticize the Bush Administration for expanding entitlements and bailouts must obviously think Gore and/or Kerry were better options.

That's not a bad thing at all in and of itself. Jindal's problem is that he hasn't actually dome anything substantive here while governor, so all he has to run on nationally is his image as a minority Republican who sounds like he knows what he's talking about. When the national media started poking around to examine his record, you saw national Republicans get real cold on him real quick. He's apparently unfazed by this and is continuing to "run" the state like he did in hisfirst term. I mean he was a lock to have a soft landing in the Senate at one time, now there's a poll showing he trails Mary Landrieu by more than a few points. He came into office with tons of promise, but he appears poised to leave with nothing to show for it. The only people left who still think he lives up to his image are partisan ideologues.

I see that you're a bit misinformed. The voucher student takes the same tests, but they are not held to the same STANDARDS. Taking a test is not accountability; answering for dismal results IS. The private schools are not given the same letter grade that public schools are given. Further, there are no PENALTIES for private schools when voucher students don't make the grade. However, there are penalties, including state take over, when public schools do not. I do not want my money going to private schools who do not have to show me that they are any better than public schools.

Jindal is going to destroy the private school system? Why, because now those precious children will have disadvantaged and/or children with melanin in their skin in their classes? Oh, the HORROR! Where's the evidence that private schools are better? Anyone with a miniscule amount of intellect can understand that if you do not use the same metrics with both systems, there's no way to make that determination.

Exactly. We can criticize our governor while recognizing that we have no good options here.

There's nothing wrong with aspirations. However, you've missed my point. Have aspirations on your own time. I'd like a governor who actually governs our state and is 100 % devoted to the CURRENT job, not some implausible future. I realize that all politicians are selfish and self centered, but this governor is awful with his self promotions. He travels around giving awful speeches and raising money for republicans, and doing whatever he can to keep himself in the national spot light. If he would just do a good job here, he wouldn't have to whore himself out to the establishment.

Where's the evidence that private schools are better?
Evidence lies in decisions of interested parties to participate in an environment best suited to their needs and ability.

Evidence lies in the choices families make when they actually possess resources required to freely make those choices.

Man there's a lot of mind readers in here.

Let's just be honest here. Not all private schools are better than all public schools. Only the top tier private private schools SJA, Episcopal, U High, St. Mary's, Brother Martinetc.., and are better than a B rated public school.

Private schools are better than or as good as C, D or F public schools for one reason only. The quality of parenting. How does vouchers fix poor parenting that does not value education? This is the real reason Louisiana has so many failing schools.
