This is 2013 and, apparently, some people still think teenagers will refrain from fricking if effective "abstinence education" is in place. WHAT PLANET DO SOME OF YOU LIVE ON? Crap, I'm older than most of you and there's absolutely nothing any teacher could have told us that would have dissuaded us from having sex. What would have been effective in preventing teen pregnancy would have been realistic sex education and, frankly, LESS fear and shame.
no no let them go on. I so enjoy hearing about the world according to some of these guys who I believe seriously never actually go out and see the sunlight.

lol wow you're old. Do you steal balls from the neighbors kids when they land in your yard too? So in your world. We should punish kids who frick up and get pregnant. Amerika according to the grumpy old man Chinese Bandit.
No = actually, I play ball with them - even though I am old. (I can still throw a pretty mean knuckler and curve - my slider no longer does anything and my fast ball has lost its zip.) I didn't say we should punish kids who frick - I said we should stop rewarding them for fricking irresponsibly. Don't you know how to read and comprehend? I may be grumpy about the direction my nation is heading, but that comes from the experience of knowing what it was like before your parents' generation screwed it all up. You can be forgiven - you are apparently just too young and inherently stupid. But rant on - I will not be around to bother you much longer, and when my generation finally kicks the bucket, the very memory of a once lovely culture will be dead forever. I don't have to like it - and I don't have to shut up about not liking it either. Young girls should see unwed teenagers as a bad example after which they can make better decisions for themselves.

Young girls "do" see unwed pregnant teens as bad examples. Don't let the crass that MTV puts on the idiot box fool you. I raised two daughters. I told them that I'd prefer if they didn't get pregnant but I wouldnt ostracize them from the family if it happened. I recognized that kids are going to do the opposite of what parents tell them to do so I taught them about sex, safe, and otherwise and then I sent them out into the world counting on them to make good decisions. mostly they did since neither of them turned up pregnant. ...now Im raising a teenage son and teaching him the same thing. Its absolutely mind boggling that any adult in America in 2013 actually thinks that people aren't going to engage in sex...it is what drives us as a species. As to the rest of it...I assure you...your generation was just as fricked up as my parents generation or my generation. I sooooo love hearing about how wonderful the good old days was from guys like you...the only thing good about your generation was it hid the bull shite it was pulling better then current ones do.

no simple reason why don't think of a blue elephant don't think of a blue elephant don't think of a blue elephant what are you thinking of? probably a blue elephant, this same practice is present in abstinence education lets tell teens how bad sex is and tell them they shouldn't do it. or don't have sex don't have sex don't have sex what do they think of after leaving this having sex. I like JPII's Theology of the Body better.

precisely. That small target audience you are trying to reach...is just as likely to "not" have sex anyway.

Now I know in that fantasy world you live in, abstinence education actually does something...but mostly it just teaches kids that sex is something "we don't talk about
All I'm saying is that if we would appeal to the higher common denominator of teens, and not assume that they are incapable of acting beyond the very understandable urges of adolescence we might have a higher success rate of preventing unwanted pregnancies. Give them the respect of higher expectations. Is it foolproof? No, but it might make a dent in unwise behavior that leads to lower income for the parents, and a higher risk of low achievement for the children. I don't live in a fantasy world. But I do credit most people with the ability to make wise choices when a case is made that they are more than momentary physical urge, or a need for attention, which I believe is the reason for so many girls engaging in risky behavior.

What is really mind-boggling is that anyone in 2013 thinks you invented sex. We know what sex is all about. Sure, back in the day, it was not as easy as it is today. But that is the problem - it is too easy today - you have developed the moral structure of rabbits. Perhaps I just enjoyed the days when women were treated with respect rather than the PIIHB mind-set of the mentally challenged denizens in the OT. Part of me is envious of the easy lays out there, but with a moment or two of introspection, I like the world our generation built better than the cesspool your generation is leaving for my great grandchildren. Remember we designed and built all the stuff you are using. Be thankful we did what we did for you. You are going to leave behind a mountain of debt, kids fornicating in the streets, over half the world on government handouts. But hey - you can talk tough on the internet and get laid. What's not to like about that?? have fun.

.. Back in the day huh.. The womanizing, frick the secretary and slap her on the ass, good ol' days.. The days when brothels were in every town.. This days of old romanticism is mind boggling. Sure, births out of wedlock are higher. But that's only because people aren't as quick to have a shotgun wedding out of fear of what the neighbors might think.. I would like to note I fully support planned births, and don't condone creating any unfunded liabilities.

That said, comprehensive sex ed tends to be worthless because it's usually taught by some meathead gym teacher, and as a result the students don't learn anything. Lol. This is true. My son had sex Ed at school right now. He comes home with more questions than answers. I take responsibility and teach him honestly. We have reasonable and realistic discussions. He knows the deal. I do not expect schools to be able to handle sex Ed in a meaningful manner. As always, it boils down to the parents.

It was just as easy to get laid way back when you had peach fuzz on your chin as it is today. The difference is you guys hid it better. It absolutely amazes me how you romanticize the "good old days" as if no one ever did anything but show up to sunday church.

Is that what you meant when you said you liked the world of your generation?

Actually, most of the world isn't on handouts...but I forgot..the world begins and ends for you at the National borders.

I'm 46. I have actually known both males and females in their mid-20s who were waiting for marriage to have sex. Blew my mind! I will say that my Grandfather (RIP) once told me that when he was young they had to take a train from NOLA to Waveland, MS to get laid at the brothel. Lol. He told me they couldn't get laid until marriage because the girls weren't as easy as they are "today." This conversation took place like 20 years ago! Ha! He was awesome!
