btw, should I read up on the story of Persona 1..? it appears igor is in all of these games.. do we actually know who he is from persona 1?

You don't need to. P3 and P4 are connected, while P1 and P2 are connected. All four are available on your Vita.

Sad. I really hope to get true end. Definitely won't be able to throw another 70 hours into this. (46 hours in so far at 10/1)

You will be able to, I actually chose not to view it because of something that happened in December for me... I'm notorious about never playing a game after I have beat it, and this time I decided that I should pursue the "normal" ending in hopes that it will spark my interest to beat the game again.. this time with max social links and all dungeons played (actually missed 2.. but I wont talk about how)
How can I put this without spoiling anything... there will be a point in the game where you will have a chance to talk to all of your max social links.. at that point, ask me what you have to do to get the true ending at that point, it's fairly easy.

Talk to all of them in order to get true end?
At this point, I'm assuming/hoping I have them all maxed. Posting another progress report whenever I get home from work.

Doesn't actually matter, but this is one of the reasons I decided to give it "another go" ... I want to see everything this game has to offer.

nah, there is just something that happens that people don't talk about on the FAQs.. they say "do this and this to get the true ending" but they forget to tell you.. that "doing this and this" happens faster than they make it out to sound.. and before you know it, you might be at the end and not realizing you missed it.

Hey sorry, yep still reading. Just beat the game while on a flight back from Memphis today.
I got the shittastic ending of absolutely nothing worthwhile happening while jumping 3 months ahead to the end end. 
I read what you guys write and realize I really dont totally understand how to kick arse in the game

Ouch. That's the worst possible ending.
Persona 3 had something very similar. No one wants the bad end. Hopefully you still have your save?

in golden there is a save point just before you make all of the big decisions in December. So he should have a saved game just before you make the bad choices.
