sig scorpion 1911

just came across one of these at my local pawn shop. it is brand new in box, with the original sales receipt. Shop is asking $1000. Is the price right? Too much? Is it a good overall pistol?

$1,034.99 is retail price NIB at Impact Guns Online.

Sig Scorpion at Impact

That Sig has an External Extractor. Some Like, Some Hate.

Thanks. What would be the best 1911 you would recommend in the $1000 range?

If they are asking 1000 at a pawn shop chances are they can make a killing with their asking price. Shoot em 800 and work up to 9 would be my strategy.

Is the grip stippled or is that just a design?

<<< not the guy to ask.

I would prefer the S&W E Series to the SIG, if I was getting an External Extractor one.

Most people will likely recommend the Ruger SR1911 SS 45 for around $850.

Its a nice pistol but a 1911 with an external extractor is just blasphemy.

John designed it and perfection was achieved the first go around with the internal extractor. The Sig is still a nice pistol though.

re: sig scorpion 1911

I have the scorpion carry and havent had a failure yet but its under 500 rounds. Mostly cheap stuff but about 50 hornady TAP. I have carried it a ton and the cerakote. as held up.

My first 1911 was a S&W which also has an external extractor. I added a compensator and after a few thousand rounds it is by far the most enjoyable pistol I have fired. Problem is my wife shoots it better than I do. My point is I have had no issues with external extractors.

At one time my carry was a kimber ultra carry 2 and I had 2 fte's in the first 300 or so rounds with remington umc ammo. It was stolen. Hurt my wallet but not my feelings.

Newer kimbers made after around 2008 have been notorious for failures, mostly the models with external extractors.

As I said the Sig is a good pistol, I am just a 1911 purist.

Notorious? I know several people with post 2008 kimbers with thousands of rounds and zero problems...

BM,
After around 2500 rounds through a 1911 its about time to change the spring. I would also look into a buffer if you don't already use them.

As the spring compresses and decompressed is loses it effectiveness and can potentially cause the slide to crack.

Check of Wolff for replacement springs.

Yes, notorious. I said many models, not all. Full size government models usually have no problems but models with two piece guide rods, ee's, etc...have been very hit or miss.

eta:
It is what it is, your fiends may have great guns...but kimber quality isn't up to par with the prices kimbers sell for.
