If you do not respect intellectual property as a concept, then why would you take measures to prevent others from using it? You are a fricking hypocrit if you take any measures to prevent others from using information since you do not own that information. If any bit of information is entitled to some protection, then every bit of information deserves protection. Or do you claim the right to make the determination of which information deserves protection even though you deny others the right to make that determination?

I can think something without saying it. I can make a plan without wanting someone to know that plan. That's different from accusing them of theft if I tell them the plan and they implement it. If I want something to remain secret, I should take measures to keep it secretive. Has nothing to do with "intellectual property".

I think Howard Roark was the lunatic. And I've been down that road, I was a hyper pro-IP, Objectivist, but the appeals to the logical side of things slowly chipped away at my belief in IP.

You're talking out of both sides of your mouth and your ass. Are you saying it's the blame of the person who has their property stolen and not the blame of the person stealing?

I believe I have been saying it's not theft. Also, I'm saying, if I don't want someone to know something, I shouldn't say it. Or at least take measures so that they can't hear it.

Your logic is skewed. I understand what you're trying to say but it's dishonest and I believe you are smart enough to know you're splitting hairs to make a point. It's similar to the argument that not increasing the Federal budget is cutting the spending and reducing debt.

I know you have. I've been ignoring it on grounds of how ridiculous it is.

So you are saying what I asked. You blame the creator of content for having their stuff stolen, and place no blame on the person stealing it.

I'm blaming them for giving out knowledge (or whatever ridiculous "object" that counts as "intellectual property). Again, it can't be stolen, if they put it out and someone copies it, they still have the original.

Well that's possible, but very irrelevant. It doesn't take much intelligence to see the illogic in intellectual property.

So you believe in the "social nature of information" argument against IP. The courts have slammed this position down and so have most ethicists.

Bull shite. Microsoft, and other software companies, issue licenses that you have to unlock with a code. What is the purpose of those codes if not to limit the information to authorized users? They provide you the code on the condition that you not share the information. So you are once again acknowledging your hypocrisy since you know recognize the right to keep information secret, and you know their desires and conditions to do so, but you claim the right to ignore their desires for your personal convenience because they don't meet your standards for method of keeping it secret. Their intent is irrelevent, only execution matters.

Sick burn. Continue stealing the fruits of someone's labor and then telling them it's their fault you're able to get your hands on it without compensating them for it, all the while deluding yourself into believing you're not doing anything wrong.
