The problem is they don't know technique and they use their heads as battering rams.

Sort of silly considering that at that age the hits aren't really all that powerful anyway

I would say that there is no point in even putting on full pads and strapping it up until junior high at the earliest.

Full contact football isn't a sport that you need to start playing at 5 to be good at.

If they want to promote a healthier version of football I suggest weight ranges. If you son weighs 30 lbs less than other kids his age, get his arse over to the track or to the wrestling mat. If your kid weighs 30 lbs more than the average kid his age, he's probably going to be obese and need to work on a healthier lifestyle. Obviously there are outliers, but those kids can play up in age if necessary.

I totally disagree with Rockford I don't know when he played football but my son started when he was 6 . He attended a catholic high school and started school as an 8th grader .the kids who played tackle ball for years like my son had a huge advantage and most of them including my son dominated the starting positions ! My son also learned many valuable lessons from early play of team sports. Rockford your wrong sorry!

Little kids run around like chickens with their heads cut off at 6. That isn't training them for the future.

thata why they need to play rugby, the form tackling in rugby is amazing

Last time I checked playing sports is part of a healthy lifestyle.

Depends, there are tons of guys who are "athletes" that are out of shape or overweight. I've seen pitchers who would look like regular fat asses if they were in uniform. Some high school and college football linemen are just fat, and need to use oxygen machines between sets of plays. Don't mistake being on a team as being in shape.

There is a difference between pitching and playing football. You need little endurance to stand on a mound. Linemen still are pretty active.

Do you work with kids? Because I am telling you for a fact that there are plenty of overweight kids in sports and just because they can play a position in a game doesn't make their cardiovascular system or their musculoskeletal system any stronger. Thats like saying just putting a kid in a classroom automatically means he learns the material.

No but I played high school football and we had huge 300lb guys who were incredibly conditioned. If one person didn't do gassers under a certain time, we all had to run more. We were their biggest cheerleaders because when they did well, we didn't have to run.

Your anecdote is great, but there are countless stories that come out each fall about young football players dying in pre season workouts. They are almost always obese linemen.

There are millions of kids who play football. Those that die are a small fraction. Many times I see those stories it's due to dehydration, heat stroke, or an undetected heart defect anyway.

Total Bull shite.

Most kids didn't even play football until they were like 12 or 13 when I played.

I started playing when I was eight in the Mobile City League. There were just more players joining as the years went along. I think more parents didn't want their kid to play until they felt like they were big enough. And no, I can't ever remember anyone getting seriously injured in all of those years of youth football.

I love how these politicians act like they even care or know what the frick they are talking about.

the one thing I did hear about as I got older was how there was a lot of gambling on the games going on between the parents. I'm sure that fricking imbecile doesn't care about stuff like that.
