You do realize that using the AGW acolytes' own modeling, you could cease ALL human activity that generates CO2 (all industrial activity - oh, and killing every human, since CO2 is a natural byproduct of our respiration) and it would only lower the projected temperature increase by about .5 C?

Do people really believe humans can cause a climate change?

you do know that "The Day After Tomorrow" was a movie, right?

Do you have an argument, or just jokes?

What would it take for some of you guys to believe that there is a problem? I feel like it's a religious argument... no matter how much overwhelming evidence there may be, some of you simply cannot be convinced that the climate change isn't 100% natural.

Then there are those of you who accept that we might be contributing to warming, but it's a good thing because we're averting an ice age. Why do the liberals want us to freeze to death?! Nevermind the real possibility that, if left unchecked, sea levels could rise substantially, weather could get more extreme (think prolonged drought followed by massive rainfall and flooding, decimating crops), and by the time shite hits the fan it will be too late to reverse the change.

Believe it or not, scientists want to prove each other (and themselves) wrong, especially in the case of global warming. A hypothesis is developed, and then every single experiment performed or piece of evidence gathered is intended to prove that hypothesis wrong, because all it takes is one solid piece of contradictory evidence to totally disprove it. As it turns out, every solid piece of evidence so far points to the same conclusion.

You say yourself you don't even know if man is causing the recent warming trend. If it's not man who is responsible and instead some natural phenomenon, then all humans can do is adapt - just like we've always done.

Admittedly I don't know what to believe. Every time I hear about climate change, I hear from another source how its bunk and not man-made. There is no clear path to take with respect to climate change.

First off, 0.5C is a very substantial amount. Secondly, you are not disproving anything I've said by providing this little tidbit. It takes a long time for mother nature to absorb CO2, as this model you are referring to shows.

Oh i dont know, maybe actual proof. How about credible sources? When this whole global warming al gore debate came up, shortly after, all of the "scientists" that defended Gore were involved in a big scandal where emails showed that they left out data that would have contradicted their findings. That is not a basis for scientific examination.

Also, the fact that the only "solution" to global warming seems to always be more legislation. If you want a real fix, legislation isn't the answer.

Third, i would like someone to tell us what the temperature of Earth is supposed to be every year and every year in the future.

Fourth, explain why cyclical climate changes in the past are deemed as past natural occurrences and all changes in climate now is all of a sudden, "man-made".

Fifth, explain how man-made CO2 is the culprit, when studies have proven that natural CO2 emissions are much greater than human impact. Such as animal farts, breathing, volcanic eruptions, etc...

Sixth, why does the name change? In the 70's it was global warming, then global cooling, now climate change. Why does every slight variation in climate above or below the norms, necessarily mean it is man-made factors causing it?

Seventh, how is CO2 the contributing factor to temperature change, when it has been proven that water vapor affects climate much more than CO2?

I'm all for being good stewards to the planet to preserve the natural land for future generations. But i will not support some politically motivated bull shite that purposefully skews data to promote a legislative agenda. The only proof that has been given, is that this is about a power grab not about the environment.

Is it better to adapt before it's too late, or after the fact? Isn't it foresight that puts us above all other animals? If it's natural, we should at the very least plan ahead and be ready. If we are causing it, wouldn't you like to know so that we can do something about it? No, you would prefer to ignore all evidence and call it bull shite.

Some of us seem to be better at adapting than others.

So we prevented an Ice Age. Good work.

Everything you posted is true except for one minor alteration. Because I was there. In the 70s it was never warming. It was cooling. Then warming came along. Now 'climate change.'

Except for the fact that 8 different committees fully investigated the matter and found no evidence of fraud or misconduct by the scientists.

I guess just another one of those, "facts tend to be liberal" sort of things.

Typical conservative bull shite in this thread. Let's focus on today, rape and pillage the ecosystems, refuse accountability on anything to do with the environment, assume God will give us enough of everything we need so why should we worry, etc...

Where did anyone say this? I've given several points as to why i don't believe the global warming nonsense and the so-called "imminent threat" we face.

I agree, but dismissing it for political reasons is no better.
quote:

Third, i would like someone to tell us what the temperature of Earth is supposed to be every year and every year in the future.
That's impossible and you know it.
quote:

Fourth, explain why cyclical climate changes in the past are deemed as past natural occurrences and all changes in climate now is all of a sudden, "man-made".
Nobody ever said all of it was, but the rate at which temperature and CO2 levels are rising are unprecedented as far as we can tell. I am talking about an order of magnitude faster.
quote:

Fifth, explain how man-made CO2 is the culprit, when studies have proven that natural CO2 emissions are much greater than human impact. Such as animal farts, breathing, volcanic eruptions, etc...
Link to said studies? Everything I can find says we produce on the order of 100 times more CO2 than natural sources. Even cement production produces more CO2 than all the world's volcanoes combined.
quote:

Sixth, why does the name change? In the 70's it was global warming, then global cooling, now climate change. Why does every slight variation in climate above or below the norms, necessarily mean it is man-made factors causing it?
I don't know, why does the name of anything change? Does that change the fact that the globe is warming, or that climate is changing?
quote:

Seventh, how is CO2 the contributing factor to temperature change, when it has been proven that water vapor affects climate much more than CO2?
Again, link? It is easy to find "proof" both ways, but the reality is nobody knows for sure. The main cause for concern, though, is that we aren't producing excess water. We are producing excess CO2.

Best we can tell from ice cores, tree rings, etc is that the current warming trend is happening about an order of magnitude faster than prior trends.
False. The tree ring "data" you're presumably referring to consists of less than 30 trees all co-located in Yamal. And many contrarian tree data was pitched. Use google.

Further, we saw larger and steeper anomalies in the 1940s but the acolytes at UEA-CRU "reduced" th out of he dataset.

No idea what youre talking about with ice cores. Ice cores don't tell us anything about temperatures. As anyone would know that once ice is frozen it is not an indicator of temperature. It doesn't become "more frozen". iC only yield some limited info about what the atmospheric composition might have been at the polar regions. Kind of an isolated case.

You've been duped.

God has nothing to do with it. Man does not impact the temp of the Earth. I've been studying it since 96. How long have you?
