The President's Commision on Global Warming

Gives their report.

And it is weird

The best I can get from this is:

a. The fact that we are not going into global cooling in 1,500 years proves man made global warming exists.

b. Therefore, we are static due to man made GW.

c. Static is bad because we should go into global cooling because it's natural instead of man made.
Ice Age may kill everyone. But that's OK.

Well, praise baby Jesus for that. We need to keep this thing rolling so we don't all freeze to death.

'The report claims the planet will be a cooler place if the nations of the world create a “scenario” where there are fewer people born and fewer emissions of fossil fuels.'

I may be wrong on this, but aren't periods of warming more prosperous and healthy than periods of cooling?

Remember, according to AleGore, THE DEBATE IS OVER. Whatever him and his idiot followers declare is now officially "science".

AleGore getting his a$$ handed to him by our own Steve Scalise...

Very much so. Last cold period was the dark ages, when it began to warm up, we had the enlightenment. Warm weather = more food and less time/energy spent keeping warm. Humanity does great during warmer periods.

Also, better wines are produced in warm periods

I don't think we have enough data to actually draw a scientifically valid conclusion, but people do tend to do better when they have food and don't have to worry about freezing to death.

Sure, except for the hundreds of millions of people who would be flooded out of their cities, and the hundreds of trillions of dollars of buildings and infrastructure that would be lost.

We are talking about temperature patterns on a geologic (solar?) timescale here. the explosion in the human population has happend over the last century. The last time we had the earth transition from a cool to a warm period the population was much much smaller on more mobile.

Plus, the earth is always changing (at its own pace). The beaches today will become mountains or ocean floors again eventually. all of the houses and other buildings that have been built will eventually crumble. the entire surface of the earth will eventually get subsided back into its interior, get heated and compressed, some will become magma, some will get pushed back to the surface. Nothing we build today will last.

Maybe there is a correlation between the renaissance and the medieval warming period.

I don't see that happening at the current pace of the warming trend.

Best we can tell from ice cores, tree rings, etc is that the current warming trend is happening about an order of magnitude faster than prior trends. The only question is whether it is natural or caused by human activity. Satellite readings of the amount of heat radiated back into space have fallen (measurements have been taken since 1970, I believe), specifically in the band corresponding to CO2. Atmospheric CO2 levels have surely been higher in the distant past, but again, so far the data indicates that the levels have never risen nearly as fast as today.

Do I think anybody can be 100% certain, today, that humans are causing a warming trend that will have catastrophic consequences? Nope. Am I glad that resources are being devoted to studying it further, that models are being improved, and that if human activity is ultimately deemed to be the cause, that we might be able to mitigate the damage for future generations? Hell yes.
