A-train only ran the ball 3 years, played wideout fr year. Didn't always get lions share of touches either. Fullbacks 1000-1500 yards a season. Put up nasty nasty numbers. 106 touchdowns. Would have broke single game rushing record against n. Desoto in playoffs, but was taking out in 3rd quarter w 4 mins to go. Was averaging something like 26 yards a carry. He broke a lot of bones in Alex's district.

Lot of names on that list. Kevin Franklin should be on there somewhere.

What high school did he play for? I know he played for Tech in the 70's and was one of their great players along with Fred Dean, Roger Carr, Pat Tilley, and Mike Barber. The ole timers still talk about him at Tech. Every time you talk about great running backs at Tech they always bring him up.

Lawrence Nixon and Cecil I played against, and even though Cecil was the truth, Lawrence Nixon was a special back. Can do it all!

Joe Alton Delaney ( October 30, 1958 – June 29, 1983) was an American football running back who played two seasons in the National Football League (NFL). In his two seasons with the Chiefs, Delaney set four franchise records that would stand for over 20 years. He was a two-time All-American athlete for the Northwestern State Demons football team, as well as a track and field star. Delaney played two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, and was chosen as the AFC Rookie of the Year in 1981 by United Press International. In his rookie season, he was selected to the Pro Bowl after setting Chiefs records for most yards in a season (1,121), most yards in a game (193 vs. Houston), most consecutive 100-yard-plus games (three) and most 100-yard games in a season (five). Following Delaney's record-setting 196 yard rushing performance against the Houston Oilers on November 15, 1981, Oilers defensive end (and future Pro Football Hall of Famer) Elvin Bethea was quoted in saying: “I've played against the best–O.J. Simpson, Gale Sayers, Walter Payton and (Delaney) ranks right up there with them...He is great with a capital G. On October 28, 1978, Delaney carried the ball 28 times and gained 299 yards for Northwestern State against Nicholls State University with 263 of the yards coming in the game's second half. Delaney's rushing stats in the second half of the game are an NCAA record Delaney died on June 29, 1983 while attempting to rescue three children from drowning in a lake. He was posthumously awarded the Presidential Citizen's Medal from President Ronald Reagan. While not officially retired, his jersey number while playing for the Chiefs, #37, has not been worn since his death

I played with Henderson at west ouachita. He broke Collins single season rushing record, all classifications. Don't know if it still holds. He had 800yds in our first 2 games. Finished with 3179 I think. We played 12 games that year and our first team offense probably played 81/2-9 total. Our game against Winfield and the A train was ridiculous. Both had 300+.

I don't know about high school and college but Marshall Faulk is the best running back on that list as a pro. That dude was a nightmare to defend. He was a great runner and could have played receiver in the NFL. He was a unbelievable. One of the most dangerous and complete backs in NFL history. He had more catches than 17 Hall of Fame receivers. He is the best running back in LA history in terms of doing it at the highest level.

Derwin Antoine from Loreauville and Bobby Ray Tell from Haynesville. Anthony Thomas from Winnfield. All these guys are top 20. James Jacquet from ST Martinville was very good as well. Ernest Lazard from Carencro should easily be on the list even though he played fullback. One of if not the hardest runner this state has ever seen not too mention the numbers he put up. Best backfield ever in high school Kevin Faulk QB Derrick Beavers HB Ernest Lazard FB.

Without a doubt the best pro RB ever from LA. The thing is he was only offered ONE scholarship to play RB and that was San Diego State. Everyone else wanted him as a DB. For that reason, it's hard to list him as one of the greatest high school running backs from LA IMO
