It's really not that hard to create a seperate IM thread on the OT for your recruiting buddies.
Just make a bull shite thread like "Why is the sky blue?", then hijack that shite.
Not that you really need to do this since there's already an IM thread available and you can just ignore the posters not in your conversation.
The reason they don't want IM threads on the RB is because it's a sports forum and more specifically an LSU sports forum. They have a place designated where you can bull shite.
I don't see why y'all feel so entitled to exploit one of the money making boards for your own entertainment at the expense of people who come there just to read about recruiting news.
Just my two cents.

The recruiting board functions perfectly fine without an IM thread clogging it up every night. If something is relevant enough to talk about, it will get it's own thread.

Irrelevant. Time and traffic have no bearing on the rule.
The no IM rule applies to the RB just like it applies to ST, PT, MSB, etc. No one is being singled out.
