I stick to flights with my Amex. It's the only thing you get dollar for dollar. I refuse to pay the equivalent of $600 for a $400 value.

Got $500 in bestbuy gift cards at Christmas to use on kids from Chase Rewards.

Put $1500 in disney credit card rewards toward trip we are taking next week.
Should have just been using a better rewards card, but this was not a bad deal.

I only use them for a statement credit. If I use a gift card instead of the CC to pay for something, I don't get more rebate points, so to me it's giving up more money to redeem them for a gc.

I think Southwest Visa is the best reward card and flight card. I use it for couple of flights a year and I give my teenage son $500 gas cards from time to time off of it. I don't think in 30 years I have ever carried a credit card balance from one month to the other. I try to run as much business expense as possible across it to build points particularly if I am not getting a cash discount for purchases.
