| Kepler Space Telescope Data Reveals Billions Of Earth-Like Planets Near Earth (Posted on 2/7/13 at 9:45 am)
quote:
"The information we presented today will excite the general public because we now know that the nearest potentially Earth-like world is likely within 13 light years of the sun," astronomer Courtney Dressing said in an email to The Huffington Post.
quote:
The scientific team studied the huge number of red dwarf stars in our galaxy -- stars that are smaller and have a longer life span than our own sun. Just doing the math, the odds of Earth-like planets in our galaxy are, well, astronomical. Scientists estimate 6 percent of the 75 billion red dwarf stars may have Earth-size planets orbiting them at a possible habitable distance. That works out to approximately 4.5 billion Earths out there.

False. We are the only planet earth.

So they didn't actually find any planets and they're just estimating? Whatever space is still cool.

Nice. We be not alone. Odds on this being a topic of interest? 3:1

This is why I can't fathom people not believing there is other life out there. That's just in our galaxy. It's hard to even comprehend how large the universe is.

This is truly mind boggling, however not surprising. Every time new technology comes out, more Earth like planets are estimated. We are almost certainly not alone, as far as life goes. Now intelligent species running into each other may be nearly impossible.

Well I guess it's possible that the possible habitants of the possible "Earth-like" planets out there possibly named their planet Earth in their possible alien language. anything's possible.

Now to really blow your minds, if those 4.5 billion earth-like planets are of relative size and population. There is a possibility of 36,000,000,000 people potentially. What are the possibilities that there are parallel universes? Seems pretty likely to me

How long before we get Google Earth quality imagery of said Earths?

I'm sure sure every civilization has there own god just like they do on Earth. Until they evolve past it of course.

Lol - mainstream scientists look for alien life in the far reaches of space, when in reality, they've been here the whole time.

I wouldn't exactly call those planets near in relation to our current capabilities. I certainly believe there is life on other planets but I don't know that we will ever see it unless wormholes do exist and we discover how to utilize them. We will never travel at or near the speed of light and there is no such thing as warp drive. The best bet for life from Earth to continue is to send microscopic organisms out into space in every direction and hope that they land on habitable planets. This is the most believeable theory to me regarding how life started on our planet.
