re: Anyone eat Paleo?

Well, it seems like you're doing it for all the right reasons and not some hippie liberal douche ideology.

Disclaimer: If you are a hippie liberal douche, I apologize.

All of the things you listed are huge reasons to eat tons of veggies, fruit and nuts... however you absolutely need to get meat and/or fish in your diet.

Yes, I realize...

quote:

Had I known then what I know now about the meat/dairy industries, the treatment (or lack of) of the animals, their living arrangements, the chemicals and filth and disease involved, it would've been the number one reason.

but that reason isn't good enough to stop eating: grass fed beef, wild caught fish, venison, etc. Meats from animals that come into as little contact with us as possible.

If you believe in evolution, which I assume you do because you don't seem like a ra-tard, you can agree that humans have existed and evolved for 10s of thousands of years as hunters and gatherers. Our bodies have been slowly adapted more and more to not only survive off veggies, fruits, and meats, but thrive.

Now of course everything we do and eat must be in moderation. Don't go home and eat some veggies, fruit and a ton of meat. There is a balance that must be maintained there. You should eat meats, nuts and fruits in moderation but you can eat veggies until you puke.

Try introducing a serving a day of grass fed beef, wild caught fish or free range chicken eggs to your diet. It would be much better for you and is much closer to how we are made to survive based on science and evolution.

Also, learn to workout based off the things our ancestors needed to do to survive (survival of the fittest) and you will never feel better.

I know noodles came in all shapes and forms these days, but kelp noodles is one that has escaped me. Will have to give it a whirl one day.

You are much safer here than on the OT--don't go spouting your views and opinions there unless you want to be terriorized. Hopefully, there are more open-minded people that come here over than on the other side. Usually those that are closed minded here, likely won't click on the thread.

This information is extremely interesting, though I do question some of the choices of Paleo...like legumes, I really like them. And coconut milk sounds disgusting since I don't like coconut in the least.

I want to start trying it and start cooking with the oil, but coconut does not go well with my blood type so I try to avoid it. I just cook with olive oil and use almond milk instead.

Making a gravy out of almond milk is freaking awesome.

Paleo is a bad diet. Ranked worst diet by doctors and dietitricians out of 28 diets. Google it

Beans are the best food for men and they say not to eat it

Eat good carbs, lean meat and eat right 80% of the time.

Completely disagree but before I go on a rant why, would you list some of these reasons that doctors don't like it. Also, look into who funded the studies that came up with negative results.

Bummer. My friend's doctor recommended she go Paleo a few weeks ago.

Re: beans - the reason the diet tells you to cut (at least reduce) legumes/wheat is because it bloats you and your body breaks it down differently. Why do you think beans make you fart?

This is not true. But we can agree to disagree. Almost anything meat can offer me nutritionally, I can find in something plant-based. BTW, in The China Study, they do a study on let's say getting 5g protein - one from animal-based, one from plant-based. Even though they were the same amount, the plant-based protein was more efficient than the animal-based. I do respect your standpoint, though.

I do appreciate all your concerns about my diet, however, as I said before, meat is not necessary in sustaining (my/your) life. I encourage you to read some of the books I previously listed. I am not looking to change my diet. I feel better than I have ever felt and I honestly can't see myself ever going back.

I do workout, I run and bike... thinking of taking up swimming soon. I haven't looked much into the survival of the fittest type workout, but I definitely will! Always open to new suggestions.

I definitely get

but you have to keep in mind that there are plenty of different types of proteins. And like I said, humans bodies have survived off of meat for years so our bodies function best off of that.

I admittedly am a little oblivious to this so I'll ask this.

The 5 gram of protein experiment you talked about. How much of another food source would you have to ingest to get the 5 grams? I only ask because I think it will be way more (volume-wise) than a lean meat. If this is so, I think it would be extremely hard for you to get enough protein in a day. I might be completely off base but for you to get enough you would have to eat a ton of a certain food which would be too much and would get full or eat a bunch of almonds. Which are great for you but to get the amount of protein you need you would greatly exceed your calorie intake.

re: Anyone eat Paleo?

Actually, it's not all that hard to get sufficient protein from a plant-based diet. Humans don't need tons and tons of protein unless they're bodybuilders.. 50-60g/day is sufficient, and that's not that hard to do from a plant-based diet... especially if you take soy protein shakes ( ). I almost tried the Engine 2 Diet once, a completely vegan diet.. but I really just don't see the need to give up meats. I don't agree that they're bad for you.

Soy is awful for us. If you want to completely screw up your hormones, eat soy.

Haha! I know better. I only mentioned it here because it related to the subject, and I only talked more about it because someone so kindly asked. I did mention I was making a Buffalo Cauliflower Wing Pizza with Tofu Bleu Cheese on the SuperBowl Menu board and got some mixed reviews

With all of the stuff that I hear everyday... I'm pretty used to it. It's actually pretty fascinating how someone can be so obsessed or offended by what I choose to do with my life. I try to keep a positive attitude and be a good sport about it. I have to remember I was once in their shoes.

Do what feels right for your body! You can (re)introduce yourself to things you aren't familiar with having or liking before now. I want to say that in one of my psychology classes I recall learning that if a parent introduces a food to the infant that it doesn't like, by continuing to work that into meals after the 14th (don't quote me) or so time, they will have acquired the taste for it. I imagine that can work for you, as I assume you aren't an infant!

You do know their are countries that don't have access to sufficient amounts of meat and also countries that have practiced vegetarianism for years right? Wiki
ETA: look at their disease rates.

As someone else said, humans don't need as much protein as we think. I get plenty of protein for what I do everyday. Refer to the chart on this page for options and their protein count. Veg Protein

I can't sit down and do it right now, but I will type up some quotes later this afternoon with a little more detail about protein from The China Study.

Oh I agree. But from the vegan/vegetarian perspective it's not, so it's something they can eat take to make sure they're getting sufficient protein.

Hey, lets compare in an un-scientific food board study.

I'll do strict paleo for lent. You do strict vegan. We can write down our stats on Ash Wednesday and again on Easter.

What do you say? (Other posters willing to participate on one side of the other can too.)

re: Anyone eat Paleo?

I'm down. However, weight alone should not be the determining factor.

Weight, strength, sleep patterns, alertness, etc. all need to be factored...

The more I read about it the more I want to slap the vegans.

They argue that meats have the other 9 essential amino acids we need that our bodies can't produce. So instead of eating 1 healthy lean meat, they suggest eating 4 to 5 different kinds of lentils, grains etc. that are proven to have negative effects on the body and will undoubtedly screw up your insulin thanks to the gluten.

I'll do this for the sake of giving up something for lent and science but this diet has some pretty retarded arguments for it.
