This news means that these characters will be drug through the mud even more so than under Lucas Film. Even Lucas had some common sense. Who will be playing young Chewy?

Donald Glover (Community) ought to be young Lando. That's a given.
Han Solo? Maybe Matt Smith (current Doctor Who). I don't know if he has the quite has the swagger. Too bad Nathan Filion (Castle, Firefly) is too old. He would have killed. Mal Reynolds is Han Solo through and through.

Disney should give it to Taylor Kitsch. They owe him for screwing him on the lack of support and promotion for John Carter.

Every 18 months to 2 years. These spin-offs/one-offs won't start until after Episode 7 is well under way.
Disney did work with the Avengers build-up and the pay off. They'll do fine with Star Wars. I'm not saying they'll make them as good as the originals, but the worst I can see them doing is slightly better than Episode 3 (easily the best of the PT).

No. Taylor Kitsch never should have been asked to be the lead guy in a blockbuster at this point of his career. I never saw Friday Night Lights, but I've heard he was great in that show. However, that show wasn't exactly pulling in 10 million viewers a week and he wasn't the lead guy (Kyle Chandler was). Outside of his 2-3 scenes and 4 minutes of screen time in X-MO: Wolverine, he didn't have any notable credits as a supporting guy either.
Yeah Disney screwed the pooch on the marketing. However, Taylor Kitsch being more or less a no name, didn't help (See Battleship as well).

I still say the guy is a good actor. Is he Harrison Ford? Hell no. But he might have the swagger. And he's better than some of the charisma vacuums who have been suggested in this thread...

Jensen Ackles practically plays a young Han Solo every week on Supernatural and he could easily pass as a young Harrison Ford.
