Why did I see a black x instead of a picture sometimes? Is it different than the red x?

I'm not kidding. Oweo posted about the same thing early in 2012 and Chicken said it was a sign of admin supervision. He was banned soon after.

Ok...so the person posting the picture is under supervision....I have a new computer and I really thought if might have been some type of parental obscenity lock of some sort.

No, the person seeing it. Somehow the admin supervising you changes the coding of the site and causes you to see the black X.

Well if you actually had the stars it would mean all your activity is being automatically forward to admins for review.
It's not really something you have to worry about until you're seriously in danger of being banned
