shrug. Wouldn't know. I havent had a pay "raise" in a number of years thanks to the fun economy. But no one has certainly told me that since they weren't giving me a raise they were cutting my salary.

Back when I was in the military no one was paying us a "living wage". We were well compensated in other ways (medical, the BX, etc etc) but a living wage...ha.
You join the service to serve. Not to get rich.

There is nothing more important than the military mission and our personnel. The funding of the military is accounted for in the Constitution, so cut something else that's not. I don't know say free birth control, midnight basketball, or some other lib dujour.

My concern is for the safety of the personnel abroad and the statements that were made. You don't do that. Period.
To discuss your question regarding the enemy would again be allowing politics into a situation where it should not enter. The Carter Doctrine long ago addressed the issue of the region's strategic interest to the US and every president since that time has upheld this policy.
Now to the scab fighters that you talk about. Suit up yourself to find out their fighting abilities. I did and my view of them is inverse to yours.
Disagreements aside, we're both blessed to be able to speak our views without fear of reprisal in an open forum and that's a pretty good thing. Take care
