Translation - winning battles is not as important to me as winning politics.
The only problem with that is that the soldiers don't care about the politics, they care about surviving. Those being sent into harm's way know they are being put at greater risk, and they will be less likely to adhere to rules of engagement. It will be better to overwhelm with firepower from a distance than to close with soldiers incapable of pulling their weight.

Seems I remember not too long ago the democrats were so pissed at the republicans for what they claimed were "war mongers" that the dems wanted to open up the draft and send all republican children to the gulf war. I wonder if Obama would mind sending his two girls to the front?

I'm sure everyone here knew how old they were. See, my question was IF his girls were of age would he really send them. It seemed to me that was obvious...

Anyone who knows anything about the military knows that the President won't be sending ANYONE to the "front lines". The SECDEF and POTUS send units to areas and the Commanders determine from there what units get placed "on the front lines".
The lowest level HQ that the President would directly send anywhere is a 3-star command.
