re: Drone strikes, legal, ethical and wise

Drones are currently being used in the US. Hypothetical question regarding this admins use of drone strikes on American citizens, could they take out an "American terrorist cell" in the Rocky Mountains without due process?

Being that they essentially create their own laws now, why wouldn't they be able to issue a Presidential finding and legal opinion that just expands the term of "Al Queda and associates" to include "Enemies of the State"?

Don't worry. They'll get the SCOTUS to twist the words "nor be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law" in the constitution and interpret them to say "nor be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law EXCEPT IN EXTREME CIRCUMSTANCES*"

*To be defined at the whim of a politician

Not to mention I think under those terms, the government can detain any individual/citizen without due process, if they are "classified" as a terrorist.

Deal with what you fricking have at the moment, and at what has been the verbage for the last four years from the left. Deal with the likes of Jesse Jackson appealing to Oboe for DHS agents patrolling the streets of Chicago now. Deal with Oboes verbage about needing a "civilian force" with equal wieght to the military on the streets of America. Where are all of the left leaning knob jobbers? What do they have to say besides chirp.

Seriously, this is fricking ridiculous. If this was Bush it would be a fricking riot. Dems would demand impeachment.

I mean, the uproar over Woodwards articles towards the end of the Bush Presidency about Chaney having an "assassination squad" that reports to him drew more outrage than the actual assassination of an American citizen does from the left.

It's just pathetic.

re: Drone strikes, legal, ethical and wise
I am just waiting for the "catalyst event" needed for him to take power. all the little things we have been quietly hearing about are adding up.

Pretty soon all the ground work will be laid, and all that will be needed is something huge and horrible to happen to scare the people into giving over their rights.

*Bad economy
*Blame one side over and over (It's Bush's fault)
*Tell the populace that you are the answer
*Restrict guns (Aurora / Sandy Hook and gun talk)
*Enact more and more laws/policies that give you more authority (warrant-less wire tapping, drone strikes, indefinite incarceration)
*Make the populace depend on you to live (Obama Care/welfare)
*Local enforcement arm (DHS/IRS/Local Law Enforcement falling in line)

*Catalyst event. Hitler had the bombing of the Reichstag. What will our ruling class have? Or was it 9/11 and Aurora/Sandy Hook?

As far as I can see all that is missing is this event.

I don't this line of thought is too radical

So you're completely ok with an American citizen being murdered without a trial on the suspicion that they may be working with AQ?

Now its completely different if they are fighting on the front lines, actually shooting at American soldiers, but that is not what Carney is talking about.

He's talking about them and the people who send them to the front lines

That's awfully simplistic. To begin with, we see in "regular" criminal trials that people are wrangling in as conspirators when they aren't really involved. In those cases you at least have your day in court to prove your non-involvement. In these TERRORISM cases, the so-called evidence against just might be top secret, not even available to your lawyer (if you had one, and not blown up, that is).

It's starting. In the next few years, we will see shite getting real on american soil. DHS buying billions of rounds of ammo. Leagalized drone strikes on American Citizens. Indefinite incarceration without trial for "terrorists." Military exercises in major american cities. Obamacare is the catalyst. People will take to the streets.

nice mountain you're building there

What would be the threshold for facts in your case? No worries about a political apointee determining a citizen's life or death?

And how do you know that he is directing it?

What if he is an operative for another agency gaining intel? You know, since our agencies communicate oh so well?
