re: Someone needs to punch Ron Paul in the nose

quote:

correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the line 'those who live by the sword, will die by the sword' refer to the law of reaping what you have sown in the context of murder? Couldn't it be also stated that: those who murder will die as such? And thus the proper conclusion has to be that Paul is calling Kyle a murderer, and perhaps insinuating that all soldiers are murderers? I suppose Paul just says whats on his mind.

Go to the source of the comment Keyser:

Matthew 26:52, 53
2Then Jesus said to him: “Return your sword to its place, for all those who take the sword will perish by the sword.53Or do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father to supply me at this moment more than twelve legions of angels?

What better cause or moment to take up any weapon then to defend the Son of God? Jesus was saying a life of violence is not only in itself fruitless, but unnecessary. You can attach every noble platitude you like, but a life of violence is not noble. It is certainly not something to brag about!

The deeper point is, how can someone who lives a life of violence, full expect to die a peaceful death? Surrounding yourself by guns your whole life? Its actually more practical to think chances are u will die by one

I think there was a better chance of Kyle hurting me than "Radical evil Muslims".

Within the context of his statements, I'm thinking what Ron Paul meant was that there's a time for bringing "the sword" and a time for not bringing "the sword". It's a matter of discernment.

Chris Kyle was a really skilled marksman but he was not qualified as a therapist.

well I can see how this can be construed, but I believe Jesus had already explained the will of the father to Peter and the rest of the disciples, and peter was directly rebelling against that will, which entailed the salvation of mankind. Perhaps it was a noble reaction out of his ignorance. But I do not think that this passage carries forward in defending your own in every case, such as a father protecting his family or a soldier protecting his country against those who would enslave women and children if given the proper avenue. I believe it was specific to moment in hand which was to fulfill what he had come here to do.

Ron Paul is overwhelmingly correct about the proper role of The State and The Citizen in our Constitutional system. Sadly, he is also , a confirmed moral idiot. That's what you get with Ron Paul, a man who believes his own legend, bathes in the ABSOLUTE ADULATION of his adherents, and seldom has to defend his idiocy because his acolytes will defend ANYTHING he says, no matter how indefensible.

And really, if any group of people would reject the Indispensable Man and Cult of Personality crap, you'd think it would be self-proclaimed Libertarians.

The Seal in question IS an American hero.
By all accounts he did NOT "live by the sword".
That was but one aspect of a complicated, accomplished life.
His country asked him to perform a task that the vast majority of it's men are unable and unwilling to do.
He answered the call.
Later, he was killed by an apparent mad man.
Now you'd think the "smartest living American", the Great Man Himself, Ron Paul- would be more intellectually rigorous in his analysis than to spout a cliche about cosmic justice, but alas that's all he had; commentary that barely rises to the Phil Donahue level.

No he wasn't. He was a trained killer.

That is not a hero.

A hero is a man who creates not destroys.

My final position on this topic:

People need to stop worrying about how "offended" they are by someone's statements and stop calling for that someone to be punched, fired, or forced to apologize.

It is perfectly fair to say "I don't like _____ because he / she said ____". But, then move on.

That goes for Paul, Don Imus <sp?>, or anyone else.

Your feelings were hurt? Rub some dirt on it and move along.

And, maybe Paul means the GOVERNMENT entanglements in foreign wars...and this man's death is symbolic of the Gov program dying by the sword....etc.

I really think it's this. I would bet $20 bucks that if RP clarifies his comment in the coming days that this is the explanation he will give. He always talks about this issue when it comes to foreign policy and how it directly affects the lives of our servicemen.

I typically agree with both your, and BHP's, posts but this reasoning seems a little contrived to me.

eta: I say that as someone who doesn't like the statement made by Paul (or Ron Paul in general) but does respect his firm stance on the issues.

:racist:

I agree it was a reach. I was just trying to find additional areas for understanding. I try to do that before deciding what i think about an issue / statement

So do most children. This is just more evidence that Ron Paul is a complete loon.

"treating PTSD at a firing range doesn't make sense."?

Hey, didn't that teenage mass murderer's mom take him to the firing range to bond with him because he had mental issues? Can't remember his name. The one with the boogey eyes.

I seriously doubt it, since AR-15's are (for the most part) illegal in Connecticut.

No, she took him to the range with smaller guns. But the point is, if my kid was troublesome I would think something like golfing together would be a better idea.

How trite.

So by your definition the men of Easy Company are "trained killers" and the Shamwow guy is an " American hero" ?

This is PRECISELY the moral idiocy I mean.
Too clever by half, smug in it's Chomskyite assumptions and slack-jawed rejection of timeless virtue as it sneers at the sacrifice of brave men.

The Ron Paul Zombies and the Obama Zombies share FAR more than they like to admit.

There were a lot of things said through MSM that haven't been confirmed re: Ms. Lanza.

I always took it to mean that those who inject themselves into violence (voluntarily or otherwise) have a great risk of dying by violence.

I honestly don't see the issue with Paul's statement.

Really?

I always thought SEALs were considered Special Forces.

You got a link? I'm interested to read up on the designation.
