| Are illegitimate children given the father's last name? (Posted on 2/4/13 at 9:47 pm)
Just wondering since there was a thread about wives not taking a husbands last name, and some posters saying that they wouldn't care as long as the kids had their last name.

Well, in the north, they're just given the surname "Snow"; in the stormlands, they call them "Waters"; in the Reach "Flowers", ect.

My brother's child has his last name. He didn't marry the mom until my nephew was about 2.5.

Did he plan on marrying her anyway? I expect the father probably won't give the kid his last name if he doesn't plan on marrying the mom.

Depends on if the baby momma wants to snag the father or not.

You can call them bastards. It's ok. And no, they shouldn't. We should give them all bastard last names. It makes the trueborn whelps take some pride. All the bastards in BR could have the last name Tiger, or Whiteflight, or Shittyschoolsystem.

Kingbob gets me. Want to play M:tG? I cast "child support". Oh, you countered the spell with "paternity test." Well played.

It's ok, I win with "Battle of Wits" thanks to having a 200 book strong legal library at my disposal.

Nope. They were dating, she got pregnant, they had the kid. I think there marriage lasted about 6 months before they split. Anyway, it doesn't really matter if the Dad wants to "give" his name to the child. You can name a kid whatever you want. It doesn't require anyone's consent.
