I doubt that means anything but it would be a home run if we could hire del rio. Not likely but I would be ecstatic to land him.

who's staying in town? Donatell, Tomsula, Leavitt, Monachino?

good story on Tomsula he is so respected in San Francisco, he has stayed on through three head coaches: Jim Harbaugh, Mike Singletary and Mike Nolan. “He was one of the coaches we kept from the previous staff,” defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said. “You never quite know how you're going to mesh when you haven't worked with a guy before, but it was pretty evident that Jim and I see football the same way. We have the same philosophy of doing things, so it's been a really clean, natural fit for what he believes with the defensive line and what I believe. That part of it is great.” And the man who once couldn't find a football job is seen as a possible NFL head coach or defensive coordinator. Pitt reportedly talked to him before hiring Paul Chryst. “I'm actually kind of shocked that he isn't right now, honestly,” defensive tackle Justin Smith said. “The success this team has had, I think it's pretty well known around the league how much he knows. He was the interim head coach here (in 2010), but sometimes those things just take a little bit of time.”

iggles seem to be looking at some of the same guys... The secondary was a big problem for the 49ers, as it was thoroughly outfoxed by Joe Flacco and his Baltimore Ravens’ receivers. They helped the Ravens jump to a 28-6 lead, which they really needed to hold off a 49ers rally after the power went out early in the second half. The Ravens' 34-31 victory gives linebackers coach Monachino a Super Bowl win and an extra boost to his resume. But the Eagles were unlikely to choose between Donatell and Monachino depending on who won the big game. Yet if Philadelphia was leaning towards Donatell, the Super Bowl had to give it pause. It may not have been the secondary’s fault, as Flacco’s throws were on target all night. However, the 49ers’ corners were overwhelmed by Anquan Bolden and Jacoby Jones on big plays, while a pass interference penalty on Chris Culliver helped lead to an insurance field goal by the Ravens in the fourth quarter. If the secondary and the defense had made just one big stop in the first 30+ minutes, the 49ers could have completed their comeback much easier. Yet a San Francisco defense that had been the toughest in the NFL for most of the season let it down. In truth, the 49ers had been paper soft on defense since mid-December, but it finally cost them in the Super Bowl. Whether it costs Donatell a shot at a defensive coordinator job, with the Eagles or anyone else, is yet to be determined. The fact that Monachino’s linebackers stopped the 49ers at the goal line in the final minute could be a big boost for him, to say nothing of his new Super Bowl ring. LINK

Jeff McLane ?@Jeff_McLane And from late last night: Ravens LBs coach Ted Monachino told me GM Ozzie Newsome wouldn't block #Eagles if they are after him to be new DC. LINK relevant in that teams do have the ability to block position coaches from DC jobs. NFL only recognizes head caoches and everyone else as assistants.

According to that article the Eagles have hired everyone except the DC. Seems like the guy might like a little latitude to hire some of his guys.......

Mort just reported on NFL 32 that he expects the Saints to name a DC this week ...and that Romeo Crennel is the front-runner and has been given his blessing by Bill Parcells.

I have mixed feelings about that. On the one hand, I would love to just know that we have someone who knows what they're doing; someone who can build a solid defense. On the other hand I kind of want someone young and dynamic.

I would be ok with this, but I'd prefer Tomsula. Crennel can definitely coach a defense, but is getting up there in age. Would like to see a younger, up-and-coming coach. Either way, I think it will work out.

Being that this is CSP's 4th DC hire since 06 I think he wants a very safe pick. I don't think there is a safer hire out there to run the 3-4 than RC.
