I love the dude because of his effort and hustle (always sprinting on the field) but I think he was kind of a disappointment, especially at the plate.
Really? His hitting fell off some with the new bats, as did everyone's just about, but he hit .315 over his career here...a guy 5'6 in cleats. I dont know how that's disappointing at all.

He was very highly thought of before he got to campus. He was a huge get. He had a solid career and played a lot of baseball, but he wont be rememered with the all time greats

Jacoby and Eades are the two most important pieces to LSU winning it all. If they play to their potential, LSU stands a good chance against anyone in a 3 game series.

He wasn't even drafted, not saying he wasn't highly thought of before getting here, but guys expected him to hit .350 or something over his career and not even be an MLB prospect out of high school? Some of you had WAYYYYY too high expectations. .315 over a career is very solid (would have been much higher without the new bats coming in).

Im not saying he'll be remembered as an all-time great, just that's its tough to forget a really good 4-year starter for us, we rarely have guys who start all 4 years who are actually really good.

No doubt. Nola was the best defensive shortstop I've ever seen at LSU.

Whoever said or expected this is either ignorant or isn't aware of the current state of college baseball. Career .315 hitter in this day and age is great. If we had all .315 hitters in our lineup, we'd be instant contenders for the SEC regular season crown even before we address pitching.

He had a great freshman year with a surprisingly high batting average, but even after that, I can't remember a single person expecting great superstar/pro-career types of things from him. In his 4 years, he was #6, #5, #5, & #6 on the team in batting average, which seems pretty stable. His last year was sort of a disappointment (especially in conference play), but on the other hand, the same exact thing happened to Austin Nola, so deal with it. Overall, a very solid career, and although he didn't quite reach his potential his senior year, for his first 3 years, he was about as good of a hitter as you could have possibly expected from the guy. That being said, I have little doubt that people will be getting him confused with Hollander in about 3 years' time. But even more importantly... Let's talk more about JaCoby!!!

It still blows my mind that he started last year off in CF.
Just shows you what became more evident as the season went on, the glaring lack of speed among our OF. Fortunately, that will not be a problem this year.

The reason was because Mainieri had already decided in the fall (sound familiar?) that Casey Yocom was going to be some great anchor of stability at 2B, so we needed to move JaCoby to the OF to make room for him. Jones started CF. Then Foster did. Then Sciambra did. Then Fields did. Then Katz did. The problem was that Fields was already in the dog house and going south, and that Sciambra & Foster were too green to be stable hitters. So it was all about hitting, not fielding. Unless McMullen or Laird start every game, there will very likely be times this year where we see Jones at 2B, and Rhymes/Sciambra/Edward/Katz in the outfield, which will be just like last year. The difference is, now we have the freedom to move Katz & Foster to the infield, although personally, I would prefer to see Katz playing in RF. The #1 question mark for this team remains the 3B position. There are all types of different flexible things that can be done with the outfield and the pitching staff (with all the new guys coming in, I have no doubt that Dunn will find a way to get it done), but the team absolutely, positively, must find some way to get a solid hitting contribution from whomever is holding down 3B.
