I am totally aware...some of you took that borderline apples to oranges comparison that I made just a little too seriously and literally.

Maybe so...I just keep remembering that one game where we lost to Nicholls when they used a different pitcher each inning and shut our bats down. This place went full stupid retard (except for the few knowledgeable fans who understand that losing a midweek game isn't the end of the world)

Expectations are everything. If this basketball team had anywhere near the talent of the football team it might have been different. Personally I have always enjoyed rooting for an underdog and it makes the wins like last night oh so sweet!

It's like the Dinardo years

Not even that good honestly. Dinardo had some ranked teams

pretty awful comparison considering where the 2 programs are right now. football has been running at the highest level since 03. basketball is up and down and usually down for the last say 20 years. so clearly if our football team coached by a guy that has been here since 05 is struggling with uk its going to piss people off. now basketball isnt at the top yet and its being coached by a first year coach that has to make up for the past coach being terrible on the recruiting trail so any win will please people.

I just think Grad, the difference is a comination of things...apathy about basketball in general and relative expectations. Expectations for baseball and football are high and maybe for some exaggerated. The expectations for basketball for those few who care are low and there's the honeymoom for a new coach and the venom for Trent and what he left that gives JoJo no some slack in that regard for most.

Yes, and if the basketball team shut out an opponent, we would all be hailing it as the greatest performance of all time by anyone. It is part and parcel of the differences between basketball, baseball, and football. Most basketball games are close, especially between teams that are around the same talent level. Same for baseball. Teams in baseball and basketball lose a lot more often. In football it is all or nothing and there are usually, and I emphasize usually, only four or so games that will be truly contested and in doubt in any given year (on paper, pre-season). Sometimes less. So when LSU football puts a game in play that ISN'T one of those three or four, people are upset. Just about every game in basketball is in play, especially considering the new coach and the reloading CJJ is going through. So, the reactions are different because they are entirely different things.

Meh, I don't really agree with the OP's sentiments. The yay, let's just be happy to win at all kind of crap is not going to get you championships. The basketball team is being rebuilt from the cellar. The expectations are quite obviously different. Are Duke fans going to jump up and down with glee if they have to squeak out a win over the worst team in their conference or don't play up to their talent and squander championship opportunities? Personally I think it's obvious and quite reasonable that the reactions are different given how drastically different the two situations are. Success breeds different expectations. That's part of the process. Would you like us to rush the field if we beat the number one team in football again? Probably not. And the reason is quite obviously because the expectations are now higher because of the elevation of the program. Incredible come back tonight for the Tigers. I'm looking forward to the day that we are disappointed that this game had to come down to this. That's the day the Tigers will be consistent NCAA tournament contenders and I prefer that to the fleeting thrill and jubilation of having a comeback win against a sub-par team.
Nope. None of this is correct. You're an idiot.

How is that not correct?? Basketball has limited talent and isn't even ranked when football has a top 5 class every year and is ranked in the top ten almost every year.

good post but i think we can all agree our expectations for our basketball team slightly dwindle those of the football team.

LSU Grad Are you trying to compare: LSU Bball's Hallman/Dinardo-esque recent past to LSU Football's expection-laden recent past? If so, can you sprinkle some seasoning on my curly fries?

No it's the fact that people don't understand parity in college sports. The shitty teams can beat the good teams on any given day. Our football team and les miles is given no slack. We barely beat ole miss, Fire Les!!! Reading the Missouri board was hilarious after our game. It was like a classic rant meltdown. One poster said "we just lost to the worst sec team in the worst conference in the history of basketball" Yet we would kill to have the program Missouri has in basketball. Just like 95% of every college football fan would kill to have our program. Yet we continue to act like a bunch of crying babies on all the blogs.

No, most get parity. The idea is that if all teams are relatively the same, why are we disproportionately bad on offense? Even with parity, if LSU had an average offense, most games would be decided well before needing, say a 13 men on the field penalty to produce a win.

The difference is simple: Basketball team: an under-talented, under-sized team with zero expectations pulling of huge upsets and ridiculously exciting come from behind wins. Football team: one of, if not the most, talented teams in college football that continually makes the same mistakes, with little to no sign of improvement, that consistently plays poorly (albeit in winning efforts) against inferior opposition while losing close games to teams more on their level. One is scrappy because they are playing above their talent level. One is doggish because they are playing down to their opposition. It's all a difference in talent.

You people are so blinded by your Les Miles hate, you can't see the forest for the trees. LINK Take a look at the top 50 offenses in the country. please tell me, other than Bama, what program you'd rather have than ours? LSU fans are too short sided to see the big picture. Yes our offense deserves criticism and has ample room to improve, but the blind hatred for our coach is purely laughable.
