What involvement should the US have in Syria?

Old news, I got it. I was recently discussing this issue and was curious what the board thinks.

I think it is pretty clear that suuni extremest groups have seized this chance to gain some ground in Syria.

Bashaar "the lion" al-assad seems to have his hands full with the rebellion and is politically stuck between Iran and the U.S.

So what to do?

Fill the skies with UAV's so whe know wtf is going in just in case.

Other than that, let them thin eachother out.

A prince is also respected when he is either a true friend or a downright enemy, that is to say, when, without any reservation, he declares himself in favour of one party against the other; which course will always be more advantageous than standing neutral; because if two of your powerful neighbours come to blows, they are of such a character that, if one of them conquers, you have either to fear him or not. In either case it will always be more advantageous for you to declare yourself and to make war strenuously; because, in the first case, if you do not declare yourself, you will invariably fall a prey to the conqueror, to the pleasure and satisfaction of him who has been conquered, and you will have no reasons to offer, nor anything to protect or to shelter you. Because he who conquers does not want doubtful friends who will not aid him in the time of trial; and he who loses will not harbour you because you did not willingly, sword in hand, court his fate.

So let me play devils advocate here.

The longer this goes on, the more suuni extremist groups will recruit and pillage resources from Syria. Assuming they manage to oust Assad, there will be an enormous swath of land and people ripe for development into terrorist assets. Can America afford to let this turn of events occur?

Two mad dogs going at each other MC. What would you do?

Let em lay waste to each other, and then assess the results and act accordingly.

Best thing we can do until then...assist Israel under the table, and wait for them old f'rs in Iran to die off. And hope and pray the younguns take control.

Nothing. I'm so tired of our hard-on for spending money to kill people.

The argument is that one party will not be weakened by a prolonged conflict, but rather it will bolster their capabilities.

My grandma used to throw water on em. I don't know if that applies here or not Hahaha.

What if this conflict extends into Lebanon to a greater degree? Would an immediate threat to Israel warrant our direct participation?

On 2nd thought, we might as well make a few bucks selling weapons and ammo to them.

If the US goes in, we'll be helping the terrorists.

Maybe we should bomb them

Because that doesn't result in recruitment for terrorist assets....

They'd start wiping out the Maronites in Lebanon long before that happens. And being that we're not stopping the ethnic cleansing going on right now (and are actually sending weapons to the bastards), I don't think we'd do anything.

The Maronites can give as good as they get. Tough mountain people for the most part.

So I take it nobody really wants any part of this insurgency. Refreshing, really.

Right
