| There is no such thing as a 'gunshow loophole' (Posted on 1/31/13 at 5:22 pm)
The same laws that apply outside of a gunshow apply inside of a gunshow. Nothing is different about transactions that happen at a gunshow. 'Gunshow loophole' is a completely fabricated term put forth by the willfully ignorant or lazy. And yes, this needed its own thread.

Agreed. I can't take anyone seriously who says this.

But it makes for a good, fear-inducing talking point. Who cares about facts?

Of course there is. You can call it mama's spaghetti if you prefer but there'd still be a loophole at gunshows.

So, you object that people don't call it a name that encompasses the larger, more dangerous, UNIVERSAL loophole that INCLUDES gunshows? You people make no sense.

How many aspects do you need? The loophole is that somebody at a gun show who sees a gun he wants but doesn't want to submit to an instant background check can have his friend buy it there for him. The loophole is that criminals know that they can choose more easily from a wider variety of guns at gun shows from private sellers.

You can do the same at any gun retailer.

No loophole. There's a law against that. Try again. (eta- unless you work for the BATF under the current administration, then that's encouraged.)

That dangerous term would be called a private person to person sale that happens everywhere. Exhibitors at gun shows are FFL dealers.

You are out of your depth on this topic. There is no shame in that, you just need to educate yourself before participating.

Just the ones surrounded with facts, not the ones you choose to talk about and are currently ignorant on. Such as - quote:
The loophole is that somebody at a gun show who sees a gun he wants but doesn't want to submit to an instant background check can have his friend buy it there for him. The loophole is that criminals know that they can choose more easily from a wider variety of guns at gun shows from private sellers.
Rex the more you talk about this subject the more ignorant you sound.

Your example is called a "straw sale" and is very much illegal under current laws. You couldn't have whiffed on this any worse if you'd intentionally tried to give the wrongest answer possible.
