Official AR-15 thread Ok. I don't know jack shite about ARs but want to get one soon. What should I absolutely make sure I have? Best types of uppers? Lowers? M4 or don't M4? Chrome lining? Build myself or not? Etc... Thanks. I don't feel like reading through 71 pages that will be 99% useless.
Save your money, buy a Colt, call it a day.

Dreworleans, If you order things piecemeal, then I think you will have some success. The first thing you have to do is get your hands on a stripped lower. I would google the FFL dealers in my area and call them. They may have some that they are willing to sell you today. That is what I did and I scored 3 lowers in one night.

Drew, just because of how hard it is to find a lower, I would personally stake out Academy every day for the next month and make sure you are there at 7:30 so you are first, then buy whatever Smith & Wesson, Colt, Bushmaster, or Windham that they get in. Its not difficult to build, but some parts are tough to find, and for someone new, by the time you figure out it if what's available is for you, it will be sold out

Drew, Order this Poly Lower for $80.00 right now if you want, and that is a piece you can get sooner and at least start a build on, then can upgrade. After this comes in, everything else will be easier to explain. I am on here 24/7, and the other guys can help too, but this is the hard to find object, and it wont be available for long, and you will be able to upgrade to metal in the future. You can do much better than that for less than $1600. I have components for a Bravo Company upper and the completed rifle is going to be less than $900

I was just at my local Walmart and asked a guy about ordering a le6920. He said that they cannot take orders or put you on a waiting list. He said they were getting about 1 every week and they are still selling for $1050. He just sold one yesterday.

Really confused here. JGSales has an AR57 .223 AR-15 listed for decent price. But in researching AR57, all their calibers appear to be FN 5.7×28mm. Potential scam? LINK

Drew, I think you are going to get raped trying to buy online like that. If you can find a backorder for a stripped lower in the $115-150 range- take it. They really aren't hard to assemble. Some springs here and there and some roll pins. The advice I have been giving my friends and just repeated. Go to Academy at 4:15 AM and see what is coming off the truck. Be the first one at the front door at 4:15 AM. Somebody is there to unload the truck and they will come and tell you what is on the truck. If they have an AR, tell them you want it. They will give you a business card with the Gun you are buying. The prices were reasonable two weeks ago. I haven't been in line since then. So, Buy one at Academy, but remember you have to be there 3-4 hours early. Some people at the warehouse are calling their buddies and telling them which stores to go to. So, you will have to beat them there. OR: Build, but don't get raped trying to pay more than $390ish for a lower and $600 for an Upper. You can build one for $900 with a SS barrel match barrel with Quad Rail: Rguns $550, Spikes Combat Trigger: JoeBob's Outfitters $50, Palmetto State Armory Lower Parts Kit minus fire control group: $40; and Bravo Company 6 position stock with buffer tube, spring and buffer for $80. (Finding the Stripped Lower is the Challenge) That is the entire gun.

Is that one a piece of shite though? Also why don't you think they will be available for long. Do you really think they will get banned?

Its not a piece of shit, the stripped lowers are a part that you can really afford to go cheap on, because most, even the metal ones, are made by third parties, then picked up and just marked with whatever brand and they drive the price up. I ordered a $80 metal from Brownells almost a month ago and a $105 metal from DSG two weeks ago and havent seen one yet. Personally, I don't like the idea of polymer lowers, but others will swear by them. I just saw they are actually in stock, which is rare. If you would like, stay in this thread for a couple weeks, we can get you set up. Nimble was right, you can build an entire rifle for much less Edit- When I said they wouldnt be available long, its because EVERYTHING sells out in a matter of minutes usually. I see they had over 600 of these lowers, so there may be more time with them, but a lot of the uppers, the parts kits, the few BCGs you see, ammo deals, will sell out in less than 10 minutes.
