There's another turkey thread? I thought only one hunting topic per species allowed on OB, everything else dedicated to AK, AR and securing ammo. Any problems with the copper slate when wet.

I'm working on a slate call. Well I will when I get home. In MI right now. Saw a bunch of turkeys in a field today while driving. Made me wish I had my diapragm to practice.

Is it a Belgian or Jap model? Talk to me a little about the choke situation. I REALLy want a Browning like that. Would it make a good pheasant gun?

Mine is the Japanese model and it's a darn fine gun. it's choked Full and Mod. I use Full for the longer shots and Mod for close work. Using lead or Hevi's it does a good job. The choke constriction isn't as tight as an aftermarket turkey choke so your effective range is limited to about 35 yards. I picked the gun up from a retiree that moved to FL from Nebraska. He used it exclusively for upland bird shooting,

I agree with Wiltz, it's whatever call you have the most confidence in. For me its the Woodhaven diaphragm, but I have noticed that I used the slate more and more last year. Last year in Texas hunting Rios they would only respond to my "purring" with the slate.

You bastards are going to make me spend some money I see. I like the diaphragm just because I can limit my movement. I use box then switch, I keep one in each cheek. It's worked well for me over the years.

This Once you've called one in with a mouth call all the rest of the calls is just extra weight IMO. but i still pack them around

The longer I'm at it, the fewer calls I carry. When I first started I had the entire Bass Pro catalog stuffed in my vest. Nowadays I carry two slates a few strikers plus one box call. I generally add a yelper and a crow/owl call and thats it.
