Lawson will pass the clearing house. He did have to take some credit recovery classes online through parish and state approved courses. These have passed the NCAA clearing house every time before. His ACT is fine, his composite is actually really good. I don't know why LSU is backing off Lawson and asking him to grey shirt. It is really frustrating to see a kid improve his grades and get all kinds of promises and basically get them yanked from him for no reason.

Please know what you are talking about before you start blaming the high school. Lawson's plan for being elgible was discussed with LSU coaches over a year ago. They were on board with it then.

He is getting the college prep diploma. The amount of stupid on the board amazes me sometimes. Know what you are talking about before you speculate.

Congrats on getting in to LSU just like about 10,000 other people each year. It's a little different for a kid that screwed around his Freshman and Sophmore year and is having to work double to make it up. True it is on the kid not applying himself but ease off the school. They cannot make the kid pass.
I will say this, the school has done everything they can to put him in a situation to qualify.

Well, there you go. This is clearly a situation that is not standard. LSU just doesn't want to take the risk...I'm sure due to experience and knowledge in its end.

Are you saying that Les Miles and his staff are so incompetent at recruiting that they aren't aware of what classes an "at-risk" COMMITMENT is taking to academically qualify?

No wonder Nick Saban got Eddie Lacey elgible when LSU couldn't.

Actually, I don't believe the above statement because I know that LSU is very involved in knowing what classes their COMMITMENTS are taking. You just made an ignorant statement that implied that LSU had no clue about this kid's transcript. The excuse that LSU is giving is about a class taken last summer, 7 months ago.

Well this conversation wasn't started to bash Lawson or reasons behind him being asked to grey shirt.

The article pointed out some facts from his coach.

The facts include that his ACT and GPA seem to be fine according to Coach Nettles.

I agree that it's turned into speculation.

I just don't want to see this kid go anywhere else.

If you don't think there are players at LSU that have had grade trouble then you are fooling yourself.
My main point is that LSU offered the kid, the kid never wavered on his commitment, worked extremely hard to raise his grades/ACT and never even visited anywhere else and the staff should honor the scholarship. I wouldn't have cared if LSU didn't recruit him because of grades. That's fine but don't pull the scholarship a week before NSD.
I hate when something like this puts a damper on my love for the tigers.

this stuff happens a good bit, you are just now noticing because you have an emotional investment in lawson (or so it seems)

LSU is one of the best in the country at sticking to their word but we get burnt every year. the staff is tired of taking risks and getting screwed

Whats the big deal with greyshirting, other than paying your own way for at least ONE semester?

I understand money is an issue, but waiting one semester to be on scholly with the team of your dreams just doesn't seem like a big deal unless it is ALL about not having the means to pay.

Can someone enlighten me on why greyshirts would bolt if thye really wanted to be a Tiger? I would think pride is a huge factor.

I never made the statement you are pretending I made. That was you while you were building your little strawman argument.

When a kid's eligibility relies on several online courses he took to make up missing/failed credits, I'd say that is plenty enough standing for any school to reconsider the risk/reward of offering him a scholarship for the current year.

With the hard number rules that are in play, it's just the nature of recruiting. And, when a kid's academic standing is not in order come NSD, he is a fair target to be asked to grayshirt (effectively removing the risk for LSU).

If grades and ACT arent the issue could he use Tops or some other "academic" scholarship for the time he grey shirts?

Grey shirting at LSU is better than a full ride at North Carolina State or Kentucky.

No doubt Lawson will play at LSU and I hope he decides to stay firm in his committment.

I understand both points of view though.

who said that?

They didn't pull a scholarship offer...just offered it for one semester late...on a kid whose academic eligibility is clearly up in the air.

That's because you are emotionally invested in this particular case. As a LSU fan, I absolutely want LSU pushing the envelope on the recruiting trail...and any kid who is not eligible as signing day approaches should be evaluated on a risk/reward basis. Lawson's risk/reward ratio is apparently too high.

What Lawson is going through is a result of his academic standing. The fact that he has recently got his act together and worked hard is admirable, but apparently not enough to pull himself out of jeopardy. I'm happy for the kid that he has turned it around. Now, I hope he does whatever is best for him.

That's just the reality of the situation.
