Marshall Faulk: I'll never get over being cheated out of a Super Bowl

quote:

"They misunderstand," Faulk corrected. "Am I over the loss? Yeah, I'm over the loss. But I'll never be over being cheated out of the Super Bowl. That's a different story. I can understand losing a Super Bowl, that's fine . . . But how things happened and what took place. Obviously, the commissioner gets to handle things how he wants to handle them but if they wanted us to shut up about what happened, show us the tapes. Don't burn 'em."

"I understand Bill (Belichick) is a great coach," said Faulk. "But No. 13 (Kurt Warner) will tell you. Mike Martz will tell you. We had some plays in the red zone that we hadn't ran. I think we got to fourth down -- we ran three plays that we hadn't ran, that Mike drew up for that game -- Bill's a helluva coach . . . we hadn't ran them the whole year (and the Patriots were ready for them)."

"I know, in that game, in the red zone, the plays we ran, most of them we hadn't ran most of those plays that year," Faulk noted. "And a couple of plays on third down that we walked through also . . . Any time that I was offset, I was always stationary. And we had creating motioning in the backfield at the same depth on the other side of the field. And they created a check for it. It's just little things like that. It's either the best coaching in the world when you come up with situations that you had never seen before. Or you'd seen it and knew what to do."

If Marshall Faulk got 10 more carries, the Rams win the game. Spygate or not, Martz blew it.

I would feel worse for him had he not won a Super Bowl 2 years prior to this.

the last part is interesting, but I doubt it had much of an impact on the game if at all

I think it makes a difference, especially in a close game like that. however I have no reason to believe that other teams haven't done the same thing over the years.

Maybe they shouldn't have turned the ball over 3 times and they would have won.

It's not like the Pats defense was super effective, they gave up over 400 yards that game.

Spygate >>>>> Bounty Program

Spying on a team during practices Super Bowl week? That's as bad as it gets in my mind

There was no evidence of that, the video assistant Matt Walsh, said they were at the SB to set up cameras for NE's walkthrough, but never filmed any of the Rams activities during the practice, and wasn't asked to film any of the practice.

I thought it was established that they videotaped teams for a period of time. But now I'm to believe that the biggest game of the year they stopped? Why? This thing has stunk for awhile especially after the tapes were burned. And FWIW I hated those Rams teams so I'm glad they got beat.

There was no evidence of that

Since when does that matter?

This is a more compelling circumstantial amount of evidence than the Saints placing bounties on players and actually trying to injure someone. Look at the results on the field.

Yeah I never understood why the spygate thing wasn't a wayyyy bigger deal. Belichick probably barely remembers it these days.

In a game where they're claiming the defense knew what they were going to do?

If they weren't called the Patriots and had red, white, and blue colors do they get into trouble?

Kidding aside, its funny how the whole Spygate thing was quickly washed away and never talked about.

Can someone a little more football savvy than I explain what the heck this means?

Just in regards to the SB, they do have video evidence of them taping signals in other games, that were destroyed, which is odd.

I don't care either way, I'm just saying.

I don't think it's far fetched to think that a defensive minded coach anticipated that the Rams might do something different to throw off the defense. Maybe he just made a good guess?
