I'm giving thought to starting back, considering some online programs. currently looking at some comp sci stuff like software, also math.
who knows. i wouldnt be starting again until august...when im 32 years old

Well, putting that aside, how are you enjoying your career in the field and what would you say to someone like me who has options in other career fields? Would you recommend that I try to get that degree?

I'm not finished with school yet. That being said, I have spoken to many potential employers. Nothing is set in stone right now, but being that I have family who work as geos for schlumberger ill most likely end up there.
It just depends on what you want to do. I will enjoy the work for two main reasons, 1. i think the stuff in interesting as hell. 2. my check stub.
It's a good career, and there is a large future in it, not to mention a very large shortage in geos right now.

Wife works and student loans.
Graduated in cm from lsu and after working for 6 years i am now in my 2nd year back pursuing a mechanical engineering degree.
Just make sure you really want to do it because being poor again sucks. I went from making 80k to nothing and it was hard to adjust spending habits. shite is rough

I was wanting to go back but with the wifes student loans and having 3 kids I have decided I am going to have to live with the first degree I got and not worry about going back for a second one.

I started school working a 2/2/3 Shift (Like the SO deputy posted on page one)
I am in civil and working nights was starting to get the best of me, Id go atleast one day a week with 30-40 hours without sleep. I made a .8 that semester. Since then I am part time a a Fire Department, I work around 70-84 hours a pay period but we are crazy slow and I get to do most of my school work here.

Yrs ago I went back to school after sitting out about 4 years - I worked shift work nights and weekends- made some serious $$$ money while in school

I worked nights while I went to school the first time around, I literally got between 3-4 hrs sleep a day.
Its alot different when you are single or dating and 18-22 than when you are married with three kids and in your mid to upper 30's.
I wish I could go back and go into radiology technologist or another medical field where jobs are plentiful but like I said earlier I have family obligations and loans payments that are pretty high.
I have been looking at online degrees who knows.

I destroyed my savings and worked part time. I found an internship related to my field and between that and my studies, I didn't have much free time.
....and I damn near went completely broke about two months before graduation. I literally moved to up here from Baton Rouge with the money given to me by my new company to relocate.
I had it much easier than some of my classmates, too.
I was debt free when I started school - which made it easier. I paid off my vehicle and had a nice chunk of change saved up in anticipation for the economy to tank.
I lucked out though. I ended up getting a job that pays more than I earned before I went back to school with a better work/life balance.
I'm still very pissed off that I had to spend my retirement savings to put myself through school while the taxpayers bailed out the UAW pensions. I don't think I'll ever get over that.

Marry a spouse that makes enough, that is the route my wife is taking.
Plus I have a promise for a Lotus when she gets out of school....I doubt that holds up.

Student loans. I work at least 40 hours a week and take 18 hours a semester. Wife is unemployed. I'm fricking tired.
