They probably charged you for the free drinks and chips. At least if you pass out from the fermented carrots we won't teabag you.

Subway has gone way down in quality and up in price the bigger they have gotten.
I think the quality has always been the same, but they are pricing themselves out of competetion with other fast food chains IMO. They are still a good option, but I can spend 8.50 at a sit down diner or a mexican place. IMO that is too high for a tuna sammich and a coke. Wendy's and Arby's are doing this also. I liked going to those places for lunch becaus eI thought they were a little more high quality than McDonald's or Taco Bell. But they are 8 bucks also for a combo meal. Hell, all the McDonald's that have been remodeled have gone up in price. I eat out too much.

Wendy's
I was going to say this when I read the first portion of your post. I got that Asiago Ranch Chicken Sandwich at Wendy's and it was almost $10. I spend that at a "real" restaurant with much better food and a table I can sit at.

and when you get down to it .. you can buy a pound of fresh sliced turkey .. a loaf of hoagie rolls .. mustard and a tomato for about the same as one sub meal over there and eat probably four sandwiches ..

Most of you already know this, but I pretty much refuse to buy a deli sandwich anywhere. I have been to a Subway maybe 5 times in my life. The love AM Mart gets perplexes me. At least someone can justify Subway or something similar for the bread, cheese options, topping options, etc. AM Mart is literally like opening my fridge and making a sandwich.

Your right about that. Everytime the Jones family is in the car going through a drive thru and I hand the lady two twenties, I think of how I could feed us all a steak dinner for that much money.

Making a sandwich takes less effort than getting into your car, driving to AM Mart, and ordering/paying for one. I dine out for the majority of my meals, don't get me wrong, but I usually get things I either can't make at home or things that take way too much effort/ingredients. To each their own. I've always found sandwiches "meh". Probably because its what we ate for lunch every single day as chidlren.

It takes time to toast bread. Time is money. Toasted bread is money.

Some people work 9-5's where places like subway are extremely convenient, & can be somewhat healthy if you choose. I don't love it, but with the right toppings its suitable.

Oh, for sure. I definitely understand sandwich shops' place. It's just one of the only types of food I rarely can bring myself to spend money on. Now.. when Subway does $2 cold cuts and meatball subs all month long.. THAT is a good deal!

My wife pays $6 for a 6" turkey on wheat with cheddar and light mayo, not toasted, nothing else, every freaking day. It is a sandwich that you could make at home for $0.50. It drives my insane.
