Not what I said. What I said is that very few privates actually recruit. They may be put in a league where they are forced to do so. That is bad, for both the privates and for the publics they will pull from.

Re the comments bout "discipline & dedication" being the reason private schools dominate. Curtis has 13 Div. 1 quality type athletes this yr. Some of the lower division public school districts have none or only 1-2-3 as a whole. I know several area highschool coaches, public for the most part, and they work just as hard if not harder as private school coaches, yet do not get near the same results. It's the quality of athletes a school has that determines how good they are in the long run. And that comes from recruiting them.

No offense, but I doubt they do. The private school coaches I am in the loop with put in over 50 hours a week, if not more like 60 of just dealing with the sports they coach, aside from their jobs. They love it though. I know several Catholic league coaches and private Christian school coaches who love it because they know outworking everyone else is the key. And btw, the public schools have the better athletes, they are just lazy and the coaches won't teach them any lessons because they are afraid to lose them. I have firsthand knowledge of public school coaches who won't get on kids about grades (and the kids end up being ineligible) and I also know for a fact that at least one prominent local high school athlete was arrested during the week, yet was allowed to compete that weekend. The coaches are win at all costs in public schools, but the hype is that it is just the opposite.

Curts =/= every private school. How many D1 players have been put out by Vandebilt Catholic? ED White? ND Crowley? Hell, even Parkview Baptist? At the private my kids play for, we sent a kicker to college a couple years ago. Other than that, everyone still talks about the dude that went to Northwestern Freakin State like 20 years ago. And yes, we have some kids from 30 min away. But they showed up on their own Also, they must meet academic standards which exceed the PS by a large margin. JC and Evangel are the issue, period. Don't blow up the system for 2 schools.

Louisiana High School Football will split Public/Private. **Edited with Yes/No** quote: Okay.... I aint saying they recruit....but there's are way way more than 2 kids from la pointe de eglisse... Let me make this clear (not necessarily directed at you) WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE IF A PRIVATE SCHOOL GETS KIDS FROM OUTSIDE THE PUBLIC SCHOOL ZONE THE PRIVATE SCHOOL IS LOCATED IN? It's not like most private schools can exist drawing kids only from the public school attendance zone the private school is in. It's an absurd suggestion. Right, my point was simply there are more kids on ND team from cp...than he realized. But they would be at nd anyway

Ghost of Jackson. Meetings were reported on WAFB last night League champ, you do realize this isn't a public private split but a select non select split and much of what has public schools riled up is charter schools and rsd schools which are pulling kids within NO restrictions, more liberal eligibility rules than privates have

I'll say this: If East Jefferson had the community support of, say, Katy, Texas, it would take a good chunk of the good players from Curtis and Rummel almost overnight. Again, the secret in Texas is not that the UIL keeps private schools out, but that the UIL members aggressively fund and support athletics (and, in many areas, academics) in a way most private schools can't compete with. Look at the stadiums they build. Whenever outsiders get outraged about the expense of those things, usually those districts brag about their academic programs and test scores, noting that they did not rob Pater to pay Paul with athletics. If Jefferson Parish consolidated some schools, used the savings to add an aggressively ambitious IB and AP curriculum for the top students, vocational education (maybe more classes that can count as credits to Delgado or UNO for things like nursing) for average students and, importantly for this discussion, better facilities and more coaches for a more intensive athletic experience, then I bet they'd get a lot of private school students back. But Louisiana school systems won't do that. Even in places like Jefferson and Ascension, where demographics aren't necessarily the reason for keeping schools "neighborhood," the preference is for many schools that offer the same, crappy, sub-standard curriculum instead of larger schools that offer a more diverse curriculum and things like bigger coaching staffs.

Yeah, I figured you got it. But the argument about "out-of-zone" private school kids gets harped on a lot, but it's a BS argument, so I just felt compelled to post against the rubbish. Let me give an example. St. Louis Catholic is in the Washington-Marion district, but it's 4 blocks from the LaGrange/W-M district boundary and 3-4 miles from Washington-Marion...so you mean to tell me the kid that walks to school to St. Louis from 5 blocks away in the LaGrange zone is "recruited" from outside their "zone?" But the kid who takes a bus from next door to Washington-Marion to go to SL is OK because he's "in district?" That's a bogus argument. To me, it's less ethical if a kid who lives across the street from St. Louis, but attends public school his whole life, decides to go to St. Louis for high school strictly because he's a good athlete. The kid that busses across town to go to a private school because he's been going to Catholic schools his whole life should not offend a soul. Yeah, Notre Dame has players from Church Point and Rayne. So what? Just has to be said.

Agree totally. Holy Savior Menard has lots of kids driving 30 min or more from Avoyelles parish. Been that way for years-- that is where you go if you want to go to Catholic high school. They are not recruits-- they were always going to be there. Bottom line is that outside of a couple of schools, most privates don't recruit athletes, and in a combine-type environment they would be destroyed by the nearby publics. BUT, the kids show up for year round conditioning and what-not,and have involved parents who will follow a program if a coach just gives them one. The better publics are that way as well-- usually a long-time coach is the linchpin. The average publics - not so much.

Yep, this is the straw that broke the camels back. Also 7/10 schools were "Select" in the Superdome. When roughly 25% of the Private schools are winning a 100% of the state titles and have 70% of the teams playing for state titles it might piss a few people off. There is some type of advantage going on in the private schools if people don't realize that then I can't take their opinion seriously.

On a side note: Could the the private and public school split be seen as almost a "segregationist" type legislation? Could there be an argument built around that even?

Better coaching and a more dedicated group of student athletes. ETA: The public schools that have those things as well do just fine.

you realize this issue is not as simple as most of the tards posting in this thread think it is? i went into great detail discussing the "separate but equal" angle to the upcoming lawsuits if you want to discuss it again you are rehashing something I already talked about I spoke to a well known acadiana area private AD today. He said the prop 18 wont last in a courtroom but the damage is done. He said the current LHSAA will be chopped up into pieces by the summer. The best part is he thinks the current LHSAA Exec Committee and leadership is going to be shite canned and the Legislature is going to form an oversight Committee to administer what is left of the LHSAA after the private schools leave. If he is right, talk about unintended consequences
