You people are either trolls or you just look at Namath's stats and say, "Oh...look at all of those interceptions! The dude's overrated. How the hell did he get into the hall of fame?" I know I'm an Alabama homer but good lord people, quit using today as the standard for all. That's what a lot of you people like to do and you can't do that. Different eras, different games. When Namath was in his prime he was playing a game of football in which offensive linemen could not use their hands to block and where defensive backs could mug wide receivers all the way down the field without getting penalized. Despite this, he became the first 4,000-yard QB in a 14-game season. The next person to hit 4,000 yards did it with more modern rules and a 16-game schedule, well over a decade after Namath did it first.

Look at his stats and get back to me. He. fricking. Sucked. The only reason he is in the HoF is a prediction he made came true.

So, they were throwing a shite load more than anyone else. His yards per attempt were good, but those interceptions are just terrible dude. 47 interceptions more than TDs in his career. There are zero arguments against that. Even renowned gunslingers like Brett Favre have more than 100 TDs than interceptions.

It's easier to intercept a football when you can knock a wide receiver down any where on the field, g00ber. Namath also tended to take far more risks with the football and he would be the first to tell you that. Bear Bryant said Namath was the greatest athlete he had ever coached. High praise from two of the greatest coaches the game has ever seen. If you stick an in-his-prime Namath in today's NFL with today's rules he would dominate. Bill Walsh said he had a cannon for an arm and the best release of any QB he had ever seen.

Did Doug Williams even win a regular season game the year he won the SuperBowl?

You're a dumb ass. That's all there is to it. You look at stats and don't think anything about the context. You stick Drew Brees with the Saints offensive scheme into the 1967 season of the NFL, he would have just as many interceptions because the DBs could have their way with wide receivers in that era. Why do you think no one passed it a lot at that point in time?

Most people narrow it down to Dilfer and Jeff H of the Giants

He had 2, let me repeat TWO, seasons where he had more TDs than interceptions. I get that there were more interceptions than TDs thrown in the AFL, but Joe only played 5 seasons in the AFL.

C'mon MAN... he was an above average QB in a huge media market who had a few good seasons. He doesn't even sniff the top 25 QBs of all time.
