I'll show up to watch a few dumbasses rip some rotator cuffs while kipping.

Also crossfit is like any other exercise. You do things wrong and you'll get hurt. You use good form and you'll be fine. Which is why it's nice to have trainers at the gym watching you do your workouts and making sure your form doesn't get sloppy.

The open is not held anywhere. You sign up and they will post the workouts you have to do. You can either do the workouts with a crossfit affiliated gym where the certified coach will watch you and verify your time and make sure your reps all count, or you can video yourself doing the workout and send it in to be judged. The top competitors from each region will then make it to regionals where they will compete for a chance to make it to the 2013 Crossfit games. I've only done crossfit for about 7 months so this will be my first open and I don't know what to expect but it should be fun to do

wat? How is this reasonable...who is to tell if some of these "trainers" arent fudging results for their people?

Well each trainer is certified. So it's just like the judges at regionals and the games. Too much risk involved for a trainer to fudge an athlete's numbers just to get them to regionals. If that's what they have to do then they have no chance at regionals anyway. So I don't know who would want to risk their certification and license to have a crossfit gym just to see an athlete get dominated at regionals.

i will probably do the workouts but i am not signing up. I'm not near the level of athlete that it takes to get to regionals! I did the open wopds 12.1-12.3 last year for fun. it's cool to push yourself and see how you rank against really good athletes.

the 1,000 dollar, 1 day course is too much to risk?

To win the money prize you have to send in a video to be verified by the judges.

Thanks for posting last year's WODs. I'm going to do the open for fun. I don't have any hopes of making it to regionals, I just like to see where I'm at. I've done two competitions including one this past weekend where I got my first muscle-up (five of them actually). That was pretty exciting. My team finished 21/42. I still have to improve on many different things. I hope in a year or 2 that I can actually have a chance to make it to regionals.

90 reps in 10 minutes? Am I reading that right?

It felt good to finally get some muscle-ups. Now I just need to build them up. The WOD in the competition was 5 min. for our 3 man team to get as many muscle-ups as possible. I got 5 after never doing any ever but we finished 41/42 in that one. Killed the chipper, 5-rep bench WOD, and did decent on another met-con to finish at a much better 21st place though.

How many did you get through? Or did you complete it? No way I could complete that. 165# for 30 reps would be crazy after 60 snatches already

good guys were in that 110-135 range

most people were getting through the first 60 then hit the wall hard at 165# so good scores were in the 65-70 range
quote:
what is a "push press"?
just a bar bell in the front rack to overhead with a dip drive
