I think Lord Grantham thought he was getting the newest, latest and best medical care for his daughter but Dr. Clarkson knew what he was talking about and has known the girls their whole life. He should have listened to him.
Lord Grantham will be unwelcome in the master bedroom for a long time.

I know right?
I think they somehow blamed Dr. Clarkson for Lavinia's death, but in all fairness the Spanish Flu was so unpredictable and epidemic that he couldn't do much anyway--no doctor could.

Rule of thumb: whatever Lord Grantham suggests, do the opposite. When did he become the biggest bumbling fool on the planet? He's now bankrupted his family, accidentally sent his trusted valet to prison with his testimony, destroyed the hopes and dreams of one daughter, and now killed another. I mean, what does he do or an encore? Set the place on fire?
It's amazing his DOG is still alive.

Sybil was the hot one. No contest there.
Lord Grantham wanted to be able to say that he had a prestigious doctor birthing his grandchild. Another example of their putting pride ahead of the well being of their family.
