I thought id try it a while back and bought a double sided merkur safety razor with an assorted pack of different blades to try. Plus the shave mug/soap. Plus the shave lather brush. After spending all that money and trying it all out, once the novelty of "look at me shaving like men shaved in the 1920's" wore off I realized that I get a closer/faster/easier shave with my old gillette fusion + nivea sensitive shave gel. Never used the novelty shave stuff again. Dont waste your money if you dont have the time to invest.

You are the only person I've ever heard or read that believes they get a closer shave with the disposable razor cartridges. I don't even know how that's possible really

I guess it's cool to try at first, but that shite takes too much time. It takes twice as long to shave that way vs the normal gillette fusion + shave gel

That sounded bad. The very base of it.

I paid $120 for their full set. I now get a much closer shave
So just the pre shave, shave gel, & post shave gave you a closer shave with your standard razor? (Fusion, Mach, etc)

I use a a fusion. Yes it feels closer and the hair grows back much slower.

Looks kinda high priced to me. I bought my safety razor from Amazon. I buy Derby brand blades from them too and I've been very happy with them. It was cheaper than this place. I love it too. Once you get going the blades are way cheaper than the Mach3 stuff and the shave is excellent.

I have converted back to cheap as shite Bic single blade razors. Just as good as anything IMO. And a bag of 24 is like $4.

I got a gift certificate there for christmas last year for $200.... got a razor, stand and a whole kit. I use the fusion razor with their shaving stuff and it works much better for me than just regular gel. No more razor burn and I can shave against the grain w/o any problems. Shaves closer and can go longer b/w shaves. I have a thick beard and it works great. Its taken about 1 year to buy a replacement for the kit. shite last forever, especially having to shave at least 3 times a week.

Its pricey, I bought some pre shave oil. Certainly helps. If I could justify dropping the money on a bigger set I would.

so do the merkur safety blades just last longer? and why are they so much better than gilette or something else? will i slice my neck open with a straight razor if i am a novice, or will i just get a really close shave? and is it worth it?
