Crassus seems to be a great villain. He's not taking Spartacus for granted and even thinks of him as equal "how did you know Spartacus would move on the villa?" "cause that's what I would do"

Crassus was very underrated. In the last civil war, he was Sulla's main general at the main battle before the gates of Rome. Broke the line of the enemy despited being outnumbered and pursued them. He and Sulla took 12,000 prisoners. Pardoned the Romans and executed the rest. Pompey was in N. Africa at the time so as to secure the grain harvest and chase Carbo to ground.

Just watched the whole episode. Said screw it and paid the 13 bucks to direct tv. Damn that was an awesome first episode. That duel between Crassus and the Gladiator was something else. really took you in and feel the emotions that were flowing between the two, the respect he had for Crassus as a student and the desire Crassus had to understand Spartacus. I also loved how he taught his son a lesson. SOmething Caesar would've approve of as well as Sulla.

Great start to the season. So will this be the final season or will they have one more? One of the bad things about stories based on historical figures is that they all have to end.
And particularly this series, we all know it will end badly. And I will be sad.

why? Time for the Romans to start kicking ass. Slaves should know when they are slaves.

They had a clip with the director and he made a comment about being surprised by the end. Spoilers: just in case. The body of Spartacus was never found. They might play off of that.

That would be a good way to have a different ending. I think it's presumed Spartacus died in battle and was not among the thousands crucified. It's like the Titanic where you know it will end badly except I didn't care about any of the characters in titanic.

Awesome opener, so glad they finally have a Roman that you don't hate as the antagonist.

Damn. What an episode. Caesar was definetley not what I was expecting. I didn't think he would be such a brutish man. He has a lot of such pent up rage in him. I would be scared around him. I thought he would be more noble like. The taking over of the city was awesome. Such carnage, more than neccasary IMO. Spartacus was right to call off the dogs while they were ahead. Spartacus impaling the guy who was about to light the grain on fire was fricking boss. Previews looked solid as well.

Caesar won a Civic Crown before then. That meant he was in the front line and save a cohort from certain death. The cohort had to nominate him for the honor. Then there were the pirates. Before Spartacus, he was captured by pirates. He made them double the ransom as he told them they didn't realize how important he would be one day. Then he promised to find them and crucify every one of them. He did. Once ransom paid, he raised a navy, found them, captured them, and crucified them all. Does that sound like a dandy or fopish type? Sulla did say he saw in him many Marius's.

This was interesting to read. Also, I wonder what the hell was that slave was doing to Caesar's groin area? Was she cutting his dick or something? I saw blood FWIW. If so, Caesar is into some sick shite. On a side note, I'm disappointed in the lack of traffic in this thread a day after the second episode.

Caesar had his bodily hair plucked and shaved on a regular basis. Seriously. Remember, in Gaul he cuts the hands off of 4000 Gauls. He was very civilized, a genius, and a very rough dude. Reason why he impressed Nietzsche. Read the Suetonius and Plutarch accounts of him online. Very entertaining.

So he was big on manscaping. I guess it was a lot more painful back then.
