X files had potential to be better. But fringe was much better at sticking to a plan for overall arcs and mythology. As a story from beginning to end fringe is so much better that it isn't even close.
quote:Loose ends and ambiguities were all integral to the overall story at X-Files. If everything had been neatly resolved, where would the mystery be? Where would the plausibility of the whole government conspiracy/alien "truth is out there" motif be if everything had been tied into a neat bow? The strength of X-Files was in the excellent characterizations (total consistency IMO) and in the week to week ambiguity/tension (re: the alien abduction/search for Samantha subplot) no matter what the main story line might be for the given weekly episode.
I was pissed at the lack of closure in the x-files, absolutely pissed:
Carter lost his way.
The entire reason for Fox's belief system was the loss of his sister.
Not tying up that one lose end caused Xfiles to slip many many notches down.
I love me some xfiles don't get me wrong (my son is now a fan). But Fringe is way way way better written.
I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't fully appreciate the greatness of the x files right down to the crummy props It's the best show of the 90s and >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>better than fringe. Its legacy speaks for itself. The reason I like fringe most is how they shamelessly copy concepts from the x files
quote:Ok I guess the intolerant OT censors are now out because somebody has challenged some sacred belief they hold to and that cannot be permitted. So cue the name calling, the childish tantrum of those unable to deal with different preferences. And yes, X-Files is one of the greatest tv series of all time.
why does this thread still exist? it is an obvious troll job no one can legitimately believe x-files > fringe.
