No, man, I wasn't laughing with you, I was laughing at you. The SP500 has rallied substantially since the New Year as a result of mostly good earnings reports. This, as others have asserted, is due in large part to earnings management. General sentiment from management, particularly in the tech sector, is that they are bracing for continued sluggish aggregate demand. The actual recession ended in 2009, but to suggest that the overall economic outlook is great because of the recent rally is stupid. Some of the signs are encouraging but we are still facing a lot of headwinds. If we can get unemployment to start approaching 7%, then talk.

Well then it's quite possible that you're stupid

I'll buy that. Maybe it's not "great" but it is encouraging. My point is it's just silly to suggest that market movements are a complete afterthought that can just be casually dismissed when there are tens of trillions of dollars invested in the markets.

It's all coming back in-spite of Obama's ideology to enlarge our government size and spending. Even though he says all the right things publicly... The man still hasn't passed a budget since becoming President...so, that' all I need to know about his conviction about spending money we don't have. Obamacare will be a disaster...like all the rest of government programs we have today as evidence the problem here is that the next recession will be 10 times worse because we don't actually fix problems we invent ways to kick them down the road

That's probably partially true But I'm just talking about the economy. I don't care who gets credit or blame for it.

I mean seriously...how can people act as if retirement wealth growing is anything other than a good thing?
Ask the Occupy Wall Streeters, they don't seem to like it. Your fat retirement account is what is contributing to the current "wealth inequality" that the liberals (perhaps yourself?) have been bitching about lately -- older people have assets and savings, younger people generally do not. It's baffling that you keep harping on market-dependent retirement accounts as proof positive of economic recovery, when those accounts have risen almost exclusively because of trillions in debt issued by the U.S. government (quantitative easing) that you will likely never have to repay -- unless they take your 401k or IRA, and there are rumblings that Congress might do just that. You are seriously tone deaf.
