The thought of it sounds nasty for some reason....but really, I don't know why? I enjoy squirrels and rabbits when prepared properly so why would a coon be so much different? The only difference I can think of is that Maybe because they eat fish/meat sometimes we think of them as not good to eat?
Anyway, anyone ever eat them? Would you compare its taste to rabbit or squirrel?

I've never eaten coon. I'd imagine with a name like Stinkdog, it's not out of the relm of realit for you though.

I have before, but not on the regular. Wasnt bad, pretty greasy. Make sure you cut the glands out from under the arms. My uncle prepared it with some good rub and marinated it ad baked in oven with sweet taters. Wasnt bad at all, tated similar to roast

When I was young my dad was in a club and one morning I got cold so he let me walk back to the camp. Guys at the camp fed me good that morning. All I know was I was eating bbq. Turns out it was coon. Never turned down coon after that but like was stated previously, gotta get the glands out.
Old guy that use to work with me just ate around the glands but when he'd heat that shite up it would smell like shad guts

I've eaten it before. Not bad. Some of our workers ask for them. I'll catch em in traps and give em to them once I "settle" them down it a .22

ditto this. i've had it with and without the glands being removed. really nothing wrong with a coon as long as the glands are removed. not something i look forward to, but not something i'd turn down.

I've only had it barbecued - it was boiled first then put on grill....tasted like barbecue we had in elementary school as a kid, must have been eating coon all along and didn't know it. We had sticky meat too - I figure now that must have been horse meat...

I've got a herd of them eating up all of the corn I put out for the deer in the back yard. I mowed down on them a little over a year ago but they are back in full force again. I took out 7-8 of them last time and I'm on #5 in the last couple days.

We got an old black feller that works for us the request a coon every year. I usually whack him one or two a year. This year I shot a big fat one in bow season and gave it to him, but I failed in my mission to grant him a Christmas coon on account of the deer were rutting.

I think I could almost do it but it's not like I would sit there and cook it for just me to eat i by myselft. It would have to be a meal that took place out at the camp and in a situation involving lots of cold beer.
I know it might sound crazy but the thought of a coon in my kitchen even feels wrong.

When i was a young kid,, getting invited over to the cousins house on Alabama/LSU night and eating coon and sweet taters was a pretty big thing and something i really looked forward to.. Enjoyed the meal, but just as important for the game, they had a large speakered, big fancy radio that everyone in the room could hear, unlike the ones that most of us had where you either had to hold it up to your ear, or crowd around it to hear the announcers..
Coon, it's simple, just like squirrel...
Fry the young kitten coons, they're tender and not as greasy.
With the older coons, bake em with sweet taters and peppers, have rice and hot water cornbread standin' by.

Coon and sweet taters must be a Yankee thing. Down here we skin em, leave a foot on the coon and give it to one of our dark skinned buddies, and sell the hide.
Now that they're not worth anything I don't know anybody who shoots em.
