It's completely cut and dry. Some people are just happy to categorize other people as non-persons. People like you are either too stupid to actually look at the evidence or are too mesmerized by big words to realize how cut and dry it actually is. Or you are ok with classifying some people as non-persons.
And there was all kinds of "gray-area" about chattel slavery as well, hence its continuation in America until the late nineteenth century.
