| Faced with blindness, deaf twins choose euthanasia (Posted on 1/25/13 at 6:47 pm)
By Annabel Roberts, Correspondent, NBC News A pair of adult identical twins in Belgium have been legally killed at their request, the men's doctor told journalists. The 45-years-old men, who were born deaf, spent their lives side-by-side — growing up together and then, as adults, sharing an apartment and working as cobblers together, according to Belgian media reports. Belgium is a freer country than America.

I'm glad that they were allowed to make that decision.

Blind and deaf wouldn't be much of a life.

I'm glad they were able to go on their own terms and were okay with it.

Belgium is now looking at introducing a legal amendment that would allow children and those with dementia the option of seeking permission to die. If passed later this year, the option of euthanasia will be extended to minors affected by an incurable illness, or suffering that cannot be alleviated.
This part is horrible journalism but brings up another topic of if a minor should be allowed to make this decision and what age or cognative ability should be required.

Interesting thought. Is that part of your gratification? To have people watch?

That is going to go over peoples heads and they will get technical about it with dumbass questions. VB called for our fun thread to be on page 3.

Yeah, but without any visual stimuli. I think I could handle being deaf, but being blind would be super shitty.

I'm glad that their government could convince them that they had no reason to live.

Tragic circumstances and I may not agree with their decision, but I'm glad their country recognized their right to do what they felt was best

What a selfless and heroic act ! A good example for all. Perhaps one day, FedGov will guide our own elderly and infirm towards similarly heroic and selfless "Ending Life Decisions." Once FedGov is paying for our universal healthcare, it will be selfish and nearly criminal for any of the infirm or elderly to continue to gobble up scarce FedGov resources just to live a few more selfish years. Forward !

Congrats on being so self absorbed that you've twisted a tragic set of circumstances to forward your political agenda. I've heard nothing but complaining from the Republicans on this board about "The Left" taking advantage of tragedies to forward an agenda. Yes, Republicans and Democrats are just so different in that respect.

Life is full of tragic circumstances so we need big brother to let us know when our tragedies will be a burden on others. Bring on the state sponsored suicide booths!

More twisting of facts to forward your agenda. And you would balk at my calling you a hypocrite. No one forced these individuals to end their lives. From what I can tell, no one, much less the government, so much as mentioned that they should do so. Two adults made what I imagine was a very well informed decision that they felt was best for them. This thread is merely another example of "small government conservatives" being anything but.
