I think my favorite thing in the world is taking an opiate and listening to music.. Some good tranquil rock like Incubus, Tool, APC, Chili Peppers, etc Eta: in my room or on the couch, just chillin

I had a similar opinion when I was younger as well. Now as I have grown older I think that it actually takes away from the experience, especially alcohol. Drugs impaire my cognitive function (obviously) which in turn impaires my ability to fully appreciate the music. Most importantly to me, it makes me forget portions of live shows that I attend. Some of these bands/musicians I may not get the opportunity to see again. I want to remember the subtle nuances that some live performers bring to their acts, the atmosphere, pretty much the whole show.

I disagree. It enhances the experience for me from a fun standpoint. Then after the show I can get a live recording and experience the audio in the comfort of my home theater.

I agree with this. Cannabis doesn't interefer that bad and well I consume it weekly, so it will have that affect if I am at the show or not. I don't enjoy shows drunk at all, mainly cause I miss portions to pee.

Not to mention that the beer is usually close to the cost of a good six-pack.

I had a friend of a friend stay with me during phish dicks this year and the first night he got shite faced, had to piss every other song, and the next day couldn't remember one song they played. I just don't get why people get this trashed at shows.

In addition, substances can make the lamest shite seem profound.

When I was younger, one of the best songs to trip to on acid was Comfortably Numb. Also could be fun if stoned on some really good weed. Other faves were Black by Pearl Jam, Runnin' With the Devil by Van Halen, and Fade to Black by Metallica just to name a few. Pretty much anything that rocked was good but like OP said, it isn't the same now. Maybe that's why I'm drug free
